Segregation scene

They say show don't tell. One of the scenes that stand out for me is when Jackie Robinson's wife Rachel , travels with him to the Jim Crow South. Rachel, who is a Northerner, sees a sign for a separate drinking fountain or bathroom. Her reaction shows that she has never seen this before. Her reality, compared with her husband, both citizens of the same country, are totally different. No words are needed. The expression on her face speaks volumes.

Very dramatic, yet I doubt, in real life, that this would have been a surprise to her. Travelling to the South, she knew what she was in for.

It is one thing to be informed about something by friends or relatives. It is completely different experience when you have a physical sign that reinforces all the information. It makes s**t very real.
