horrible movie

god this film was horrible. hands down one of the worst i have seen. I mean like wtf, turtles interacting with humans/4 turtles that know martial arts & fighting villains, and their boss is a mouse..like wtf!

I know its an animated kids film but this was beyond awful and not funny at all

Agreed! yea very true, what century are you from lol

lol... guess he didn't grow up with the cartoons.

i never heard of the show before and when i first saw the film i thought it was one of the dumbest POS ive ever seen

reply

well, that explains it. you have to take a story about mutant turtles, who are ninja and also teenagers, with considerable grains of salt. As a child the show was easy to swallow because of suspension of disbelief. Also, the newest iterations don't seem to focus a lot on the complete ridiculousness of the premise, they're insistent on adding emotion and drama, making the story deeper than a story about mutant ninja turtles has any right to be. That said, it was still enjoyable to me.

Incidentally, how old are you? You must be pretty young not to have heard of the show... or perhaps you live in a foreign country?

reply

i recently checked out and watched the television show on the web and found those much more entertaining, funnier and better than the film. The film just didn't work for me. I found the turtles more annoying than funny

reply

Which one, may I ask? The really old one from 1980, or the recent one from like a couple years back?

At any rate, I didn't think they changed the personalities THAT much from the TV shows... Raphael is still the hotheaded one, Donatello is still the intelligent one, Michaelangelo etc. There's not much more to the characters than that, you know. As for the film not being funny, shows that make it to the big screen are often darker than the original content. Take for example the Pokemon movies: show was light and fluffy, movie was extremely dark. Dragon Ball Z also did that with their movies.

That said, I think this movie was made strictly for fans who had seen previous iterations. You needed to know a lot of backstory to understand the personality clashes, among other things. That's all I've got to say on that. If you don't like it, you don't like it. Not gonna try to change your mind.

i grew up a turtle fan, i recently watched TMNT(1989) and Secret of the Ooze(1991), i remember as a kid i loved those movies so much and i was feeling a bit nostalgic. i just thought how horribly those movies have aged. i began to think about how the turtles would be with a new movie with all the technology available now that wasnt available in 1989. (compare the original batman movies with michael keaton to the dark knight version, so much better). then i remembered that a new turtle movie did come out in 2007, so i watched it. this TMNT(2007) movie was so bad. ive seen the revamps to the TMNT series from a distance with their new look and i guess i could understand that, but it seems like they strayed completely from the nature of the ninja turtles, which is kickin some foot soldier ass and trying to destroy shredder. the mythology aspect? who was that girl leading the foot clan? april is a news reporter, when did she become a martial arts expert? where was Shredder? foot clan are the bad guys, why were they in cahoots with the turtles at the end of the movie? what happened to the playful nature of the turtles, why were they so serious now? only mikey had that playfull attitude really. the 1989 movies were so good with keeping that ninja turtle feeling. i guess im just more upset that the new turtles suck, these are the turtles my nephews and sons are growing up on. and these turtles just suck so bad..

the line "a little bit too raph" still kinda makes me chuckle..
oh and "I made another funny"

No offense, but do you know ANYTHING about the Turtles beyond what you've seen in the 80s cartoon series and the previous live-action films?

Because honestly, aside from the mythological aspect made specifically for the movie, this film is far from completely straying from the "nature" of the Turtles.

COWABUNGA!! and no i dont know anything about the turtles other than what i remember as a child, but judging from this movie im glad i dont..

April has been more than just a set of tits for years.
Heres a little piece of info for you; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a comic-book before it was a TV show. The comic, was much more serious and more "adult" than the TV show was. In them, April was a former lab assistant, not a news reporter. She was never kidnapped constantly like in the 80s show, and over time she learned martial arts from Splinter, which is the same thing that happened in the 2003 TV series, and this movie (and considering this movie takes place when the Turtles are about 19, as opposed to 15, that's plenty enough time to make that transition).

where was shredder?

Dead.
I don't even know why the hell you're asking this one, since it was mentioned more than once in the actual film (that, and if you actually remembered the previous films, Shredder died at the end of the second one).

just saying, i never remember the turtles flying through downtown like effin spider-man

You mean jumping across rooftops?
You're kidding right? They even did that in the intro to the 80s cartoon.

i dont know anything about the turtles other than what i remember as a child, but judging from this movie im glad i dont..

Your loss.
Because quite frankly, with the exception of the first live-action movie, almost everything since the 90s has been a far better representation of the Turtles (and that includes this movie).

I thought this was the best turtles I've seen. I could never stomach the cheesy-as-hell stuff made for kids. My first experience with TMNT was in the BW comics where they were brutal as hell. Funny but brutal. Certainly not cartoon violence that it became. This one was much better and I thought the art rendering was top notch.
