This movie was a FAILURE!

.....It was a failure with the critics.

But thankfully, the movie was a fair success in the box-office.

With a budget of $34 million dollars, the movie made a Domestic-Gross of $54 million dollars.
So the movie got its budget back, along with an extra $20 million.

So even though TMNT failed with the critics, its success in the box-office should be enough to show that it was (at least) an okay movie.

Not to mention the toys, books, clothing, backpacks and other memobilia that made loads.

And critics dont seem to understand that movies are meant to entertain, not be some life changing piece of art. You want life change, then tell people to join the peace corp or animal humane society. You want entertainment, you go to the movies or to Six Flags.

Exactly, I'm hearing that Tammy. I can't understand why critics have a problem with this movie- what? Because its not exactly like the originals? Because its CGI and not live? Because it doesn't completely follow the originals and Kevin Munroe actually wanted to be Creative? Or is it just they didn't think anyone should bring the turtles back because they so called "had their time?" Or, maybe what you said, they expect everything to be this "Pursuit of Happiness/Titanic" life altering story. All movies aren't intended for that, that's why I can watch movies like Double Dragon, Blind Fury and Surf Ninjas just as easily as watching The Departed, Braveheart and Spider-man, for example. Point-blank: There's nothing wrong with this film. I was wondering just why when I seen it on the TV info box it said "one star" I'm like "huh? On a CGI film of all things?" I watched it and the movie was most excellent. (Pun of Bill and Ted/TMNT not intended). Not just for kids, for all ages of course. Definitely entertaining like it was meant to be, not to CHANGE YOUR PERCEPTION OF REALITY! God... I just don't get it. Thank god it did that great at the box office to totally override anything the critics say, because it was great. Just as beautifully animated as Robots or any other. Three-star movie (on the 1 to 4 scale, ten on imdb for me) definitely in my eyes. Hell, all they needed was Robin Williams and probably would have got it. I will patiently await a sequel. keep it up TmnT.

I know. One critic wrote an article that didn't seem like he had even watched the movie! You can't critique without knowing what you're critiquing...

I've never seen a movie that was life-changing. I don't even see how it's possible. It's just two hours of images and sounds to (hopefully) keep you entertained.

reply

Jurassic Park was life changing for me, if only only because I saw it at just the right age. I'm grad student in evolutionary biology now because of that movie

"what is your major malfunction numbnuts?!!"

The movie was not a failure. Critics are idiots, they don't like a movie with imagination.

Financially it made 3x it's costs, it paid for itself and then some. ALOT more than 20 mil...

Financially there's no reason NOT to make another movie. They put out pure crap like a Madagascar sequel, why not something both kids and adults would enjoy...alot of those adults grew up with TMNT have kids now, and go take them to see it. Of course it's not the same dorky old style TMNT....

this reminds me of that simpsons ep when homer becomes a food critic. seems the idiots need to put out a bad review to make them earn money..... stupid fools should of aimed at somthing with out a large fanbase.

Because CGI is imagination.

CGI is lazy, the film would of got alot more hype if costumes were used again and it would of got older TMNT fans involved and also gave the series a reboot that was much needed.

CGI was a cheap and easy way to make the film fast and get it out even faster for summer.

That proves that the critics really do not know what film is good or not. I believe it's more their opinion than a fact. Because it's the people who buy a ticket to see a movie, and those people are the real critics who makes the decision if it's successful or it failed.

reply

The critics can seriously go and stuff themselves!!!! I absolutely loved this movie...I have lost count of how many times i have watched it. So many people have grown up watching the turtles...its a part of so many people's childhoods so there is no excuse for there not to be more turtles movies. And plus....I dont think i have heard of anyone so far who has not liked this movie....I think it was a brilliant comeback for our Green Heroes!

reply

Honestly, I can't really see how anyone above 16 can enjoy this, not even as a sentimental tour down memory lane. But is is the fault of the movie or because I grew up? Okay, so it's not Pixar, but I do see that kids can have some decent fun with it.

reply

It wasn't supposed to be a "sentimental trip down memory lane" where the hell didja get that???

I was a big fan of original TMNT, and i really liked this movie. Im 21 btw. It is somewhat different than the old TMNT but its sill good, i quite enjoyed watching it.

reply

I loved this movie so much (Turtles at their very best) I was shocked at the reactions of the critics about it.
In general, critics are idiots. You can't trust their opinion anymore, so better rely on your own and those of the viewers instead of theirs. It seems only overly hyped movies stand a chance against critics, like Pixar movies and TDK(not that I'm telling that they're bad just that only these type of movies get a fair score)
Seriously, the only main con I have with this movie is that there isn't enough pizza(an essential part of TMNT)

reply

What's more the consensus of Rotten Tomatoes is ridiculous:TMNT's art direction is splendid, but the plot is non-existent and the dialogue lacks the irony and goofy wit of the earlier TMNT movies.
WHAT THE HELL? It had a good story, great voice acting and the TMNT spirit! And it definitely was better than the previous TMNT movies!
I applaud the script of Ego at the end of Ratatouille about critics... it had to be said...

hmm, interesting well-thought post people. first let me reply to hossrex:

I can understand your being annoyed, I thought it was different when I clicked to, but the essential point of the poster doing that is just a way to get folks in the topic, ya feel? he couldn't have said "This movie was not a failure" because he knew that wouldn't attract people to the thread like the actual title does, so, in closing on that part, I understand why Vun did it, and I also understand your annoyance, but go easy about it.

Next, to master agent1: good points, but more importantly thanks for posting the idoitic BS wrote by a critic, which brings me to say- who was that?? after you read this, please post a link to the whole review- hell, you can post the whole thing if its not TOO lenghty, which they usually aren't, but yeah- what the hell was he/she talking about plot non-existent? I would really like to read the whole thing.

now, I'm a person that's enjoyed the turtles on many levels, from the Archie's comics to V-games to the live movies, but man, TMNI seems to reign supreme. its that well-done.

Wonder how a Battletoads CGI movie would be?? just a thought...

Since i was and still a big TMNT fan as a kid and today, this movie didn't fail me at all, even with the Shredder gone. However, in the end, when that Foot Clan leader chick told the turtles to expect an old enemy to resurface, who was she talking about? Shredder? He's dead. This animated one is supposed to be a year or so after they returned from 17th century Japan right? If Shredder is still alive, i hope they bring him back as the Super Shredder he turned into in the end of TMNT2, cause that would be cool, even in animation.

LOL well done Galvanic... well done.

I was disappointed in this movie. Probably would have liked it if they had the Original music from the earlier films.

reply

It's hard because it's a different company that owns the rights. The first 3 movies were done by GOlden Harvest and the 2007 TMNT CGI film is made by Warner Brothers. Still, it would have been cool to listen to some classic TMNT themes.

I really enjoyed this movie and thought it's one of the great TMNT movies, 2nd to the first TMNT live action movie.
Kevin Monroe stated a few times that as much as people want to see live action TMNT with puppets and costumes, you won't get much special effects and awesome scenes like Leo flying above the ocean. The budgets too high. You're not just talking about 1 character like Spider-man or Batman but Leo,Ralph,Don,Mikey and SPlinter. And that's just the good guys, you won't get a cool turtle van(in this case, Cowabunga Carl Van) or other cool gadgets.

I learn to not trust film critics when they gave Spiderman3, Incredible Hulk a thumbs up and panned Ghost Rider pretty badly. Talk about a sane world.
