Why didn't this get a sequel?

The new reboot coming out proves that there will never be a sequel to this. Well I wish there was one. I loved the animation and this movie set up a great TMNT universe we never did and never will get to see further explored.

From what I read this is a sequel itself to the original 3 live action films. Perhaps it is a closer. I haven't seen the end myself. I'm watching it with my son right now.

Wasn't a huge financial success. A lot of money went into it didn't get the return they hoped for.

I would have liked to have seen a sequel for this movie, I grew up with the 80's turtles and got burnt out on them after the third movie and lost interest. When this movie came out, I figured it would have been based on the 2003 turtles which I never had an interest in but I ended up getting a copy in a bunch of burnt movies my uncle had made for me and I gave it a shot, I thought it was pretty good, it's-it's own "universe" and it's own story. After the shredder mask was revealed at the end I thought for sure there would be TMNT 2 and maybe FINALLY a movie with BeBop, Rocksteady, Krang (with his body), Baxter (human and fly version), the Technodrome etc...I doubt they'll be in the new film either excluding Baxter but I doubt he will be a fly in the new film. Maybe when they make a sequel to the next film we will see that stuff, it would be cool if the new film closed with a glimpse of the Technodrome and maybe Baxter sitting at a desk with a fly buzzing around him or something like that, I think that would be a good set up for a sequel...

Mirage studios and Imagi animation couldn't agree on a plot for the sequel and so it fell into development hell until Michael Bay got his greasy mitts on it.

A real shame as I would have liked a sequel with Shredder and Krang.

Wasn't a box office success and ideas for a follow up couldn't be agreed upon.

more then one of you have said this, but this isn't TRUE. It made $95 million worldwide on a very modest (for an all CGI film) $34 mill budget.

Granted it wasn't a MEGA hit, but pulled in better numbers then Turtles III.

i think the development he77 is closer to the truth. Imagi Animation also shut down in 2010, so there went any hopes for a sequal.
