I'm planning on going to the movie this weekend, and i'm having trouble slecting which movie i want to see. "Paranoid Park" has 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, while "Snow Angels" has 69%. "Snow Angels" has 7.2/10 on IMDB, while "Paranoid Park" has 7.4/10. I'm having a hard time to chose, will you guys help? Help only if you have seen both. Thanx.
Do you like David Gordon Green or Gus Van Sant better? I haven't seen either, but I know I'd see Snow Angels first because I love DGG. But I will definitely see both. I've heard both are outstanding.
I saw Paranoid Park in Toronto and I saw Snow Angels three times last year at festivals. I loved both and I would see both but Snow Angels was my favorite movie of the year and I would pick that one if I had a choice.
----------------------------- The world moves for love. It kneels before it in awe.
How odd, I saw both films on Tuesday, Paranoid Park in the afternoon at the Sunset 5 and Snow Angels at the Landmark on Pico. Both are very good in their own ways. I like both Van Sant and Green, so both films are worth seeing.
Neither is a masterpiece, but they're both good. Snow Angels is easily David Gordon Green's worst. It's far less visually interesting that his other films and generally less engaging. Worth seeing, but don't go out of your way. It's marginally better than Paranoid Park. Paranoid Park is beautiful, due to Chris Doyle's masterful cinematography, but that's about the only thing to recommend it. Van Sant is a good director, and I especially admire that he's still shooting in 1.33, but the acting is so amateurish that it's impossible to suspend disbelief. The lead is okay and the few adults in the film are passable, but every other kid actor featured is simply awful. There isn't any other word for it. You'll want to turn your head away from the screen during certain scenes. If the performances were strong, it might be a very good film. See both if you can, but don't mind if you have to wait for DVD.
Paranoid Park was one of the worst films of the year. pretentious, dull, plodding, boring, and pretended to be way more "deep" than it really was. awful film. Snow Angels, however, i found to be very good - flawed, yes, but still a well made film. cheers KZ
