was glad what happened to Annie (spoilers)

She was a complete b*tch the whole movie. I was glad when she died.

you are a very, very sick individual to believe this...it makes me wonder: do you 'smack' your own wife (or girlfriend) around occasionally just to 'keep her in line'?

no matter how good, or bad a person is in life: no one deserves to be subjected to mental, or physical abuse...let alone have their life taken away because of someone else's self righteous, or demented views...good or bad, we all have basic fundemental human rights...

Sam R. did a fantastic job in this film, and he was a very sympathetic character.... however, he was extremely flawed... i can understand how anyone would sympathize with him... however... his selfishness, and self-centered view does not give him the right to take another's life...

this film was great on many levels, and depressing as hell... but, i believe that it captures a slice of reality in the sense that real people everywhere are being abused in many relationships, and on many levels...

it makes me ill to think that there are humans out there that don't value human life, anyone's life when you state "that b#%ch deserved it..."

It was a great movie but Annie was one of the most unlikeable characters I've encountered in a while.

I felt that way about Sam Rockwell's character. What an awful, narsastic, self-involved ahole (and murderer.) You cannot claim that you've found god and have that erase years mistakes due to alcoholism. Annie wasn't a great person, but she was frustrated and worn down by his inability to understand that it was too late to right all his previous wrongs. I've known men like this - trying to get them to leave you alone is practically impossible, and it breaks your soul. then they kill you.

at least he didn't kill his daughter.

Well, give the man a medal. He only murdered his wife, not his daughter. He's the fookin' Father of the Year!

BTW, nobody killed his daughter. She died accidentally.

I need my 1987 DG-20 Casio electric guitar set to mandolin, yeah. Drop the drums...

No one killed the girl, but Glenn did play a role in her death in a few ways:

1. He was unable to hold down a job before and after the separation from his wife, putting more stress on the wife so that she became stressed enough to get ill enough that she fell asleep, which gave the daughter time to leave their home and ultimately meet her demise

2. Glenn constantly set a bad example for his daughter, angering her, being forgetful and mis-treating/upsetting his ex-wife. If he had been more serene, less problems within the family would have existed and the girl might have been more accepting and responsible instead of defiant

3. If Glenn had been more honest and self-aware in regards to his problems and gotten the help he needed, then Annie would have had him around more often instead of chasing him away. If this had been the case, Glenn could have been there at the home to play with and take care of his girl while his sick ex-wife got some much needed sleep

Now I know that Glenn was mentally ill, but he wasn't so far gone that he couldn't realize that he was in trouble. He just turned to the wrong people for help and his self-denial kept him from making as many changes as he really needed.

i m with you.she was irritating specially in the scene when she d rather argue with Barb's husband about the fat chick he had been with, than mourning her child instead.she was responsible of losing her daughter but all she was doing was always to think of her self.i felt so angry with her that i could nt feel any mercy or compassion towards her when Glenn decided to kill her.

Grow up.

I completly disagree, she did not deserve to die. Their daughter died accidently and it was no-ones fault. I find it a shame that she died. She was the most gorgeous one out of the cast in my opinion.

I just watched this and have very mixed views on the Annie character. It's one of those things in life; if someone does horrible things (sleeping with her friends husband), are you supposed to forget about that when something bad happens to them? I had a hard time being sympathetic towards her, and I thought it was unrealistic that the friend who she had betrayed came to her aid. I thought she was not a very nice person- but still losing a child is something no one deserves. Glenn was very unstable and an alcoholic to boot, so it's not surprising that he would blame her for their daughters death and then kill her in the same spot. It was a sad movie.

I don't care if it was a former friend whom I now hated with a passion. If their child was missing I would go to them and try to help.

To the OP; Annie was by no means a shining example of a human being, but she didn't deserve what happened to her.

I really don't know what I would do, but it seemed unrealistic that after her daughter died all the betrayal was just swept under the rug. I mean the ladies husband was still staying with Annie!
If a friend of mine was sleeping with my husband, then when I found out about it he went to stay with her, THEN her daughter dies- I would feel horrible for her in respect to her daughter, but at the end of the day, this is still the horrible woman who was screwing my husband.
It just seemed like all was forgiven because of what happened to Tara.

You make a very valid point. Being a parent myself, I know from experience that if a child's safety is in jeopardy, most other concerns, including bad blood between former friends, just doesn't matter. I don't think the betrayal was simply forgotten, it was just put aside. However, Nate was an adulterer, too, so Annie was not the only one to blame there. As I stated in another thread, he obviously liked to take advantage of women who had low self esteem like Annie because of her perceived "life that could have been" and his co-worker who had most likely been treated poorly in the past because she was chubby. I've known guys like him.

One of the great things about this movie is the complexity of the characters. People do crazy things, and things that don't make sense to other people, let alone themselves. Annie was in a tough place, she turned to Nate for sex, I think there was very little emotion there. She certainly wouldn't have thought it through, she'd probably shoved the guilt to one side. Barb was the bigger person, definitely, but she has genuine love for Annie and the hurt over her betrayal was overcome by concern when Tara went missing. At the end of it Annie is left with Nate, a man she doesn't love or respect, with her guilt over her betrayal to her best friend and the pain of losing a child.

This is a film about real emotions. It achieved it's objectives by making you have sympathy for all of the characters, despite their flaws.

reply

Well stated. I agree totally.

reply

I agree 100% ... and for me Annie is the more complex character in the movie.Which is why she was my favourite

Right from the start I wanted to punch Glenn on the face but then I felt pitty for him until the very last

reply

Annie was a bit*h, and I agree that no one, how horrible they may be, deserves to die that way. However, this is a movie, and I did not feel any sympathy towards Annie and and the only reason I felt sorry when she died is because I didn't want Glenn to be a murderer, though my opinion may be biased since I found Sam Rockwell's performance almost breathtaking.

Kate was a total bitch for sure. She lost her kid, she pushed Sam away because she wanted to *beep* her colleague's husband. Kate deserves to die for being a selfish, arrogant twat. No one has any sympathy for her. Unfortunately, a lot of women these days behave just like her. I feel very sorry for Sam. He was trying his best in life to bring Kate back, but was having difficulty trying to control his anger. He even prayed to God and asked for forgiveness.

I bet you charm the pants off the ladies, right?

What a sick thing to say or feel.
