*Spoilers* Dream sequence?

I just finished watching the movie and have no idea what happened. Was the dream sequence with the zombies supposed to parallel the story that happened when the guy woke up? For example, "J" was a scientist in both the dream and reality...was the pony-tailed guy's dream a premonition of this, or did we already know that J was a scientist, or did it matter? And what of the zombies? Is there any explanation for them, or was it just thrown in for the sake of being awesome? With a name like "Rise of the Undead," I want to think that the zombies are an important part of the film; however, I don't understand their purpose.

Thanks in advance for any explanations or ideas.

I believe the whole thing, the dream sequence and the skeleton story were in the Jim's (The pony-tailed guy) head. There are single frame flash cuts throughout the movie of him sleeping. (Yeah, i actually freeze framed it)
Also, I do believe that the dream sequence was ment to mirror the skeleton story. J may or may not be a scientist, it really doesn't matter. I think that is the ultimate point of the movie. That explainations don't matter. That things are what they are, and no explaination would do them justice. I think the dream sequence brings this point across beautifully. It is the only section of the film that attempts any explaination and it is utterly ridiculous. The entire dream sequence seems to be a satire of the genre. Anyone who thinks they are being serious with the scene in which Jim axes the catholic school girl, needs to take a second look.
Has far as the zombies go, I just think they were cool.
As for the title, I read somewhere that it was changed by the distributor.
