You can't compare equality for marriage to freedom from slavery - that's ridiculous.

Using the civil rights movement is definitely not helping the cause. The civil rights movement is comparable to Jesus setting the sinners free - from Satan's bondage (slavery).

You think Christian men were part of the Gold Rush? You think Christian men were owning slaves? You think Christian men beat and kill homosexuals?

Christians defend belief in God and the Word of God, even in the face of hatred. Considering all the slander, hatred, stereotyping, and hypocrisy against Christians from the gay community - I'm not voting for gay marriage. BUT, if the majority votes in favor of it, I'm not going to make any effort to oppose it. I don't believe in abortion, but it's a law that I didn't vote for - and I'm not protesting it now that it's a law. Hopefully, I'll have the freedom to vote on gay marriage and the decision won't be handed down to me - but I doubt it. I don't recall as much negativity or persecution for not believing in abortion...

Really, it's nothing personal - I cannot simply dismiss my knowledge, faith, and trust in God. He means something to me...

Woah Tabby... just... woah. You need a new, more appropriate outlet. Who really needed a tyrade about gay marriage, civil rights, Christianity, abortion... all in one go on a message board about a kids movie about owls? Nobody needed to learn all your opinions about these things here, even if you didn't like the OP's little poem. And for a Christian to call another person's views 'ridiculous' right off the bat? Seems pretty unChristian. Seems like you're a bit of a douche actually.

You’re absolutely right – this isn’t the outlet for my opinions on gay marriage. I still wouldn’t vote for gay marriage because “marriage” falls under the freedom of religion. I’m still allowed and have the right to believe that marriage is a spiritual union, as well as a physical union, between a man and a woman – without persecution, intolerance, hatred, etc. However, most Christians aren’t opposed to civil unions and would vote for them. It’s just a matter of terminology. Marriage vs. civil union. Marriage belongs to God and, again, falls under freedom of religion. Christians believe in keeping the separation of church and state and would never want to deny someone their human rights - for the record.

The oppression that the African-American race suffered for their freedom could never be compared to the homosexuals fighting for their rights. Yes, I feel it's ridiculous to compare. And in consideration of all the other human rights issues in the world, honestly, homosexual issues wouldn't have my priority.
