There is no gay undercurrent or sub-plot


The dark-haired boy (Evan? I'm not good with remembering names) was fascinated with Mullet Fingers because he represented freedom. Back in Montana, Evan liked the open vistas of the mountains. Then he was packed off to a strange place where he didn't know anyone. So he wants to run away and be free, like how Mullet seemed to be.

LOL! I don't know why but thinking his name is Evan when his name is Roy made me crack up. That's great! I love it.

But yeah I agree with you, there are not always undertones just because two people have a connection.
