Alternate timelines: 'Two Dougs are better than one'

Time can deviate.

I think the Doug we see in the later half of the movie after he traveled back, is not the same Doug we have been watching before. Why? When Doug shows up in the past, he has 'revive me' across his chest, and right before, the scientist guy told him, he might get a call four days earlier about his dead body. I think this happened, Doug saw his body across that table and Doug went back still, but this time with 'revive me' across his chest. We never saw them write this on the original Doug.

Good catch! I like the theory.

I have to disagree!

Even though we don't see REVIVE ME being written, Doug says that he should have remembered IF he had been called to see his own dead body. Clearly, in the timeline where we see Doug being sent back, it seems Doug is saying that this had not happened.

There were a several moments "unaccounted for" prior to Doug being sent back. Writing REVIVE ME on his chest must have occurred in that time frame.

Even though Denny "muses" over the point of Doug seeing himself in the coroner's office, we have no reason to believe that Denny knows whereof he speaks. He only believes in one timeline and only knows of one timeline.

It is, however, a good catch to realize that REVIVE ME had not "followed" in a straightforward manner.

Would have been interesting if Original Doug hadn't been blown to bits or drowned either... does he go to work with Val Kilmers crew and avoid New Doug and Claire from the now altered timeline.

Does New Doug think Claire is bonkers and send her to an Asylum, does he boink her first? Would New Doug seek his Original one and get him to work at the ATF and he goes on vacation? Would they explode if they shook hands?

I also agree with your disagreement. I think it was just not shown. But rather than causing some confusion, if he wanted to save time by not showing the scene, he should have showed him with his shirt off sitting in the machine before it goes. I think the director chose not to show that is because he wanted it to be a surprise for the audience when Doug arrives in the hospital.

The reason Doug knew to write "revive me" on his chest is because earlier they were talking about how electric pulses could not go through. So he knew his heart would stop if he went through. Also the audience always loves to see the defibrillator in action, even though apparently it's not used anymore in real hospitals.
