Giant can opener weapons

Did anyone else notice that the Martian "weapons" resembled giant old-style can openers? I nearly fell off the couch when the first alien recoiled in fear at the sight of one of these fearsome Ecko-like props pointed at him.

Gotta go now & erase this turkey before it infects my TIVO.
