Haute Tension Anybody?

Watching this I could not stop thinking that this would have a similar ending to Haute Tension, and it did. Though the basic story is different it had the same feel to me. Was also thinking that this must have been made by the same director, but no it wasn't. I think this movie would have seemed much more original and been much more effective for me if I hadn't seen Haute Tension before.

Well, although I liked "haute tension" I wouldn't compare it with that movie. I am thinking more like Polanskis "le locataire" or "repulsion".
I though think "naboer" is original, I hope the director Pål Sletaune makes more intense movies like this and quits his comedy-directions.

I really don't understand what would make you say that. There's no similarity betwee nthe ending of Naboer and Haute tension. None at all.

I can see the similarities between the endings... but the story/reasons leading up to them seem very different.
Both movies have untrustworthy heroes... their view of things is not accurate. But John's delusions are a form of purgatory... punishment... as he tries to bury his guilt. The delusion is born out of his crime... after the fact. Marie's crazy serial killer is her tool to act out her anger/frustration... more like Norman Bates' mother.
You don't see Kim and Anne killing Ingrid... though at one point Anne suggests they did.
John might have had sick violent sexual fantasies prior to murdering Ingrid... but it's the murder that finally drove him insane... and then came the visions.
Marie, on the other hand, seems to have been crazy prior to the events of 'Haute Tension'... it's possible/probable that the serial killer part of her broken mind has killed before.
Not a HUGE difference but an important one.

This movie reminds me more of Funny Games than Haute Tension. I am a fan of the first part of high tension but the ending was lame and forced unlike an overall better film A tale of two sisters. High tension has a lot of similar themes to a Dean Koontz book Intensity but Aja knows how to keep the action going.

I know you can see the ending or a idea of what happened in Naboer a mile away but I don't think it matters. The dialog at the beginning and the way they tie in the stories and characters is a fantastic whirlwind done even better than a similar themed film Black Swan which was great itself.

I am glad I finally watched it since its hard to find suspenseful movies with substance that know how to close. For every "Inside" there is a crap " Martyrs".

This movie most definitely had the same vibe the movie chasing sleep(2000)...

Naboer is Pretty much the same premise, also with many similarities but nowhere near as good imo.

Yeah the Funny Games vibe was definitely there at the start when John's neighbours started quizzing him

For me it was Funny Games meets Repulsion - not as good as FG and better than Repulsion (vastly over-rated film saved from total crap ness by Catherine Deneuve looking great, some great camerawork and the hands through the walls scene)

And it did, huh? Excellent reasoning skills. I especially like the title of your post. It's just so engaging. "This film reminds me of film X. Let me make a post titled 'X anybody?' and surely everyone will flock to say, 'Me too!'"

What's with this "...anybody?" idiocy you American kiddies seem to love to say nowadays? There's another imbecile a few posts down who did the same thing. Did some rapper animal have a song with a similar title, or is this one of the few modes of expression you manage to pick up in your substandard public high schools?
