At one part of the film, one student spoke spanish and got spanked for it, the teacher got a paddle from the wall and below the paddle was a messege that read "If It's Not Said In Engish, It's Not Worth Saying." To me, thats racial discrimination and that shouldn't be allowed, Its NOT fair, I'm Black, but if I start speaking Spanish, Am I going to get spanked and beaten?

Dude, take a look at the date: 1968. It was at this time when english schools weren't meant to be english, or so they thought. It's different 38 years from then.

That would be like the teachers spanking a kid for speaking in Italian, German, Polish or Greek and not in English. It has nothing to do with racism, it has to do with forcing someone to assimilate into an English-speaking country. I disagree with WeWillSurvive. When the teacher spanked the student, it did have something to do with racism. Just because the language originated in a White language doesn't mean it isn't racist. How about some White people who don't like Jewish people--a lot of which happen to be white and from German or Eastern European decent? It is, in fact racism. And how about when the Irish were immigrants in the mid-1800s, they were disliked by a lot of Americans (White by the way) even though the Irish are White as well. So maybe YOU should do some studying before telling anyone else to.

The irony is that he only spoke in Spanish because he was trying to understand the lesson. He asked in Spanish what a word meant in English that he didn’t understand.
