Movie with Fewest Actors/Extras

As I watched this I realized there are very few people in the
movie. It is odd watching the credits scroll and seeing maybe 16 names.
For those of you that have extensive movie viewing experience,
what movie has fewer people than Vacancy? Bug and Reservoir Dogs come
to mind but even they have either a bar scene or outdoor scene with
others visible...

"Sleuth" comes immediately to mind. There's only three actors in the whole film, if I remember correctly. Of course anyone who's seen it knows there are only two actors, but I wanted to err on the side of caution. Besides them, there may have been a voice or two over the phone and a police officer or something, I can't remember, it's been a while. Still, very, very few actors, and a fantastic film, to boot.

This happens. This is something that happens.

You beat me to it Belfast_Cowboy. I was going to say that. Yes, 'Gerry', it only had 2 actors, Matt Damon and Casey Affleck.

Tape.

Ethan Hawke. Uma. and that guy from House. It was based on a play though, which explains the small cast.

reply

Strangers only has a about 6 people in it.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? had 4 actors and 2 extras.

i am legend had a ton, like in the flaskback scenes. And all of the 'vamps' would also be actors.

Captivity had 14....there must be one movie out there with one actor right?

reply

Hard Candy, consist mostly of just 2 people in a house.

reply

I Am Legend had tons of people. All of the people at the beginning like his wife, kid, the military personnel, etc.

Same thing with Castaway. You remember it being just one guy but really there were a lot of actors at the beginning and end of the films.

reply

"Hard Candy" had, what, like 4 or 5 names in the credits? The biggest stars I recall from that film were Ellen Page & Patrick Wilson.

reply

Lets see for Hard Candy, there was: Ellen Page, Patrick Wilson, Sandra Oh (the neighbor), Patricks ex-girlfriend, the guy at the restaurant and an extra or two at the restaurant. A maximum of like eight people. I don't know if thats the lowest ever, but thats the least amount I have ever seen.

Signs comes to mind too. Not many actors in that one. "Sunshine" is another one.

reply

Ahh no you fail...

Signs had a lot of actors, just weren't all seen on screen at the same time!

reply

Same Time, Next Year had a grand total of 7 actors in in, most of whom are extras. It was based on a play that had only 2 actors in it.

The Breakfast Club had 14 people in it -- and half of those people had bit parts.

Someone else mentioned Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff. That all of 6 people in it total.

A REALLY cheesy low-budget horror flick called Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama (yes, it's as bad as it sounds) had 11 people in it... 14 if you count the three people walking around in hooded robes who are probably some of the other actors or actresses in disguise.

This reminds me that many low-budget horror flicks don't have a lot of actors or extras, mostly because they can't afford them.

I think The Thing in a relative manner.

It had 8 characters. And in the middle of Antartica. No outside world. Everyone getting killed one by one. That was claustrophobic.

reply

Ben-Hur doesn't have a lot. Only about 500,000. That's a pretty low number.

reply

I was gonna mention The Thing(1982) too, it also lacked any female characters at all. A little known film called Closetland(1991) has only 2 characters in a small undecorated room. Cube also is fairly light on characters.

reply

I was gonna mention Cube. I haven't seen the whole thing, but I remember only seeing 5 or 6 characters in the last half of the film.
