Frank Whaley was perfect! You guys agree?

He MADE this movie! He's come a long way from pulp fiction.. Without him this movie wouldn't have been half as enjoyable!!

Well, he basically played the same guy in a latter thriller called As Good as Dead.

I didn't know that it was him in this film. I'm guessing he had light brown hair and the beard.

Life is like a beautiful melody, only the lyrics are messed up.

Yeah, he was great. Helped to keep the tension high and the action moving.

Frank Whaley was born to play a psycho! this movie was excellent and very underrated, and he delievered an intense chilling performance.

I dissagre. This movie needed a convincing actor to play the antagonist. Although Beckinsale and owen did a decent job, they were nothing more than the victims in peril, these characters never stand out in horror movies. The real treat is watching the demented psycho who's always concocting the most deliciously evil plans. I would've loved to have seen someone like Michael Ironside, or Benicio Del Toro in that part. In a movie with very few characters, Who do we get here? a dull, motel manager who looks like bob the accountant. Whaley was a poor casting choice in my opinion. honestly, were you scared when he said "They're right under us, find them". {or something of that sort} what a lame performance by this guy. Someone said he's great in Pulp Fiction. Really?? Out of all the great actors that are in that film, do you really remember ..... Frank Whaley?? He was atrocious in that too. even the pawn shop's manager with the pony tail was more memorable than him. Anyway, Vacancy, good horror film but forgettable main antagonist.

The only problem with casting Ironside or Del Toro is that the audience would see them and instantly know that they're psychos just from their past roles. Face it, neither one of them will be playing the role of Santa Claus in their careers. They needed someone who could get under your skin and be able to maintain that level of tension and Whaley nailed it.

Whaley was garbage. He was picked for his creepy looks and that's about it. When you look like a sex offender, then you're gonna fit the role of a psycho. How many guys would be scared of a little man like Whaley standing about 5'8 140 lbs? It's all about his creepy looks.

reply

Absolutely! He nailed the unassuming loser/psycho underneath perfectly. He was scarier than the pounding on the doors!

I should've read all the posts before adding my comment; I now remember his character. Thank you!

I remember him as Robbie Kreiger(?) in The Doors but don't recall the 'Brett' character from Pulp Fiction-what did Brett do in it?

reply

Said 'What?' a buncha times then died.
