How could he keep his condition a secret?

Since he can't control when he travels, wouldn't he be disappearing in front of people all the time? This would mean he would be known all over as a phenomenon? How is he able to live so anonymously?

Didn't he say at one point he can feel when he is disappearing? This means he has a choice about who he lets see him actually disappear, and if he is in a crowd, he can just slip behind a parked truck and then probably no one would notice.

It didn't sound to me like the library staff did know. He's apparently written off by them as an exasperating slacker who likes to run naked through the stacks instead of, you know, actually doing his job. In real life he'd get the sack but not in TTTW's alternative universe.

His father doesn't seem to know about it either. Even allowing for the strained relationship between father and son this seemed pretty unlikely.

I'm pretty sure the father did know judging from the conversation he had with his father after henry met his mother at the subway station.
