So we know why Bernard wasn't in it, but...

We know that Disney didn't ask David Krumholtz to reprise his role as Bernard, but they didn't even provide an alibi for Bernard's absense or reference him at all. So I'd like to hear where everyone thought Bernard could conceivably have been during the events of SC3? Curtis was Head Elf...so what happened to everyone's favorite pessimist?

"We pretty much make our living on crazy."

Well he was considerably old than any other elf there. Maybe there's a place elves go when they start looking like adults.

Middle Earth?

Bernard did say he was very old

I think they retire after awhile. He probaly retied and joined the last Santa wherever they go.

reply

He was getting a bit old for "The Show" so they demoted him to making shoes while the old cobbler sleeps (beats having an oven in a tree during the dry season).

There are 2 possibilities. One is that Curtis, snuck out of his room into the night. He snuck into Bernards room and slit his throat with a sharp candy cane. It was obvious he wanted the job as Head Elf, he wanted it for the perks. THey get an extra marshmellow in their hot coco. OR, Bernard got slipped down the stair and sprained his ankel. So Santa said he would take him to the elf doctor. So he lead Bernard out back, behind the workshop and threw a mitten on the ground. He asked Bernard to pick it up. When Bernard bent over, Santa shot him in the head. The put elves out of their misery like Old Yellar.

Your reasoning made me want to laugh and cry at the same time. I still lean toward the former reasoning. My friend and I are convinced Curtis is an idiot but a diabolical mastermind! He wouldn't be above killing for the job. Poor B

I never understood D.K. not returning as Bernard ... true some could say he was too old but he looked too old (via being an elf) from 1st n 2nd movies so what could it hurt to have him in this version. It oddly would have been kind of interesting seeing that Mrs. Claus parents were questioning everyones size and perhaps could have been relating to him walking around.

Poop in his hand ... Poop in his hand

He wasnt in the 3rd because scheduling conflicts. If it wasnt that he would of been in the 3rd movie. If they make a 4th and again dont have conflicts. He may come back and you may see it as he was helping one of the other magical being with something they needed with Santa's permission or something.

I liked the way he was sort of smoldering and aloof in the first movie. They should leave the slapstick to the other characters. I think Bernard is off spying on something dark and dangerous that is hard to find and difficult to see. I think since the kids are all getting older, part of the storyline should get a little scarier and complex like Harry Potter did.

Look, Jack Frost has to do community service at the North Pole.

That means he's unable to do his job. So someone else has to do it for him.

Whose the most senior "minor" legendary figure who will step up to take his place?

Bernard.

Problem solved.

I'm pretty sure it was due to scheduling conflicts considering he was the lead in the tv show N3mbers at the time. Even if it was not scheduling conflicts he may have wanted a break or to work in more high-profile/adult roles. You can't blame a guy for wanting to grow up a bit in his work. However I think we can all agree Bernard cannot be replaced. I rather like the idea of him being involved in some legendary figure CIA.

Are you for sure that they didn't ask him to return to play the character, all I know that it could have been an issue. But I just can't find anything why he didn't appear as Bernard, but did they need to say why he didn't appear. That is all in the past, of course but that doesn't stop people from wondering where he was. I am not sure how can I even try to guess where he was, or if I need to. I am not saying he died, but maybe he retired after all he was hundreds or thousands years old. And they didn't even have an assissant for Curtis like he was one in the Santa Clause 2.
