Wins The Independent Spirit Award, Announces Scott's Death

The good (great) news? 'Occupation: Dreamland' won an ISA for Truer Than Fiction.

The bad (terrible, horrible) news? Ian Olds announced in his acceptance speech that his co-director Garrett Scott had died of a heart attack two days earlier at the tender age of 37. (Coincidentally, my same age.)

Even the LA Times, in their ISA wrap-up today, mentioned Olds' heart-breaking speech, a rare moment of reality in the ridiculous of an award show that elicted audible gasps from the pretty audience:
'Although the overall mood of the show was casual and fun, there was a poignant moment when Ian Olds arrived on stage to collect the Truer Than Fiction award for his documentary, "Occupation: Dreamland." Olds announced that his partner on the film, director Garrett Scott, had died two days earlier of a heart attack.'

Occupation: Dreamland's home page so far has only this to say about Garrett:
'Garrett Scott, co-director of Occupation:Dreamland, passed away in California on March 2nd. Garrett was immensely talented and a good friend. He will be greatly missed.'

--D, who unfortunately missed the film, and likely meeting the filmmakers, at last year's SXSW film-fest, but I do want to see it.
