George Clooney got his ass kicked in every fight scene..

Did anyone notice how Clooney got his ass kicked in every fight scene he was in? I mean you would think he would get one victory in this movie. I guess you could count the end when he fought the American, but he still got his ass kicked..

Even by *beep* Tully..

I kept expecting him to be somewhat of a hero and whoop some ass, but no...

Great movie though, very realistic. Especially since it was based around operation paperclip..

Yeah, I was thinking that during the movie. Even got his butt kicked by little Tobey Maguire whose right arm was broken.

The only time he avoided a beatdown was the first "safehouse" scene where he intercepted the guy with a chair, and then ran off like a girl looking over his shoulder.
That's part of your problem, you haven't seen enough movies. All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.

I just came on here to post that! What a wimp, and on top of it he was quite a dumb sucker. He was played by everyone.

reply

He was drunk when he tangled with Maguire and obviously suprised.

It's a trope in film noir for the protagonist to get beat up, knocked out, hit on the head extensively.

reply

It seems typical in film noirs the protagonist gets beaten up a lot.

IT'S ABOUT MONEY, DICK!!!

reply

Yeah, I noticed that too. As if George Clooney would ever get his a$$ kicked.

I asked the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

reply

Fair play to him. Most actors would at least be a little 'Steve McQueen' and insist on winning something or looking more manly. Clooney doesn't feel the need.

reply

Mike, you're absolutely right. Which is why I have long had a man-crush on George Clooney.

Oops, did I actually type that out loud?

The guy is not a soldier. He's military but not a soldier.

The above is BS. He talks about being in the Battle of Arden and that you knew who your enemies were because they were shooting at you. Clooney plain ol got his ass a whooped. Anybody who enters the military gets basic training.

reply

"Battle of Arden" i suspect as a reporter, he mentions at the beginning about not suitable for the uniform, ie they made him wear it he is not a soldier.

reply

Yea I noticed that too. It was just beating after beating after beating. Iono what Tully beat him in the face with was but it sounded like metal and that can't be good. Then he gets jabbed in the face with the gun by that Russian which led to bandaging. Then he gets hit in the face with a chair and just starts bleeding everywhere. And yea, he basically did get washed AGAIN in that last fight before he jumps on dude's back. I feel like he got beat up more and I can't remember.

reply

Clooney was kind of playing a Phillip Marlowe role. Marlowe always got beaten up in the Raymond Chandler stories, while persisting stubbornly in trying to figure out what was going on against all warnings to desist.
