wtf was motive of making movie with such ending..

even a kid could have decided whats right thing to do in that situation. Patrick and his *beep* ideology.

reply

The ending is the same as in the source book upon which the movie was based. It was designed to create a conflicting situation. This is not a Disney movie and the world is not always a happy place.🐭

reply

its not about happy or sad ending. At least when u take decisions u should be sure of it but it seemed both afflecks were confused from start to end.there is not a single logical reason why he did it.

reply

there is not a single logical reason why he did it.
Just the opposite. It's clearly explained why he did what he did, whether you or I agree with it or not. As we see in the film Angie didn't agree.
... both afflecks were confused from start to end.
Just a ridiculous statement, probably saying more about you, rather than them.🐭

reply

well not more to say but most say it to be worst ending movie..

reply

I disagree, I think it's great.
No matter his choice, it would have been bad for some people, there's no happy ending possible, that's awesome!

reply

Exactly.

Time wounds all heels.

Disney owned Miramax at the time of production of Gone Baby Gone.
The ending of the movie is better than the book.
At least in the end of the movie he chooses to look after Amanda instead of walking away from her house, never knowing if her babysitter (Dottie arrives).

reply

He did the right thing. Morally and legally.

reply

Legally yes But i don't know if it were moral, Ya he gave her back to her mother but just because you give birth to someone doesn't make you a mother, Its a hard call and im glad im not a cop that has to make dissensions like this. There's a big difference between whats legal and whats right.

reply

You don't seem mature enough to intelligently discuss the ending

reply

Exactly

The Ending goes to show Life is not black and white. Not every choice in life is clear cut and how it turns out can be left to individuals to see what turned out "right".

Patrick although sure was doing the right thing about returning Amanda; but in the end I think it became about him. Not saying what he did was wrong.

But he was more upset about having to deal with the guilt that he and his Girlfriend felt that they thought it was there fault that Amanda got killed. Originally I think Patrick was more hurt that he was lied to by Remy and taken for a patsy. His quest was to uncover the truth which led to the ambiguous moral dilemma.

Patrick probably also assumed that his GF would be happy to know Amanda was alive and share his vision of justice. So know Patrick was faced with not only doing what he thought best for Amanda and her family; but also faced with losing his GF and partner.

In the end Patrick knows not all things were happy but he stuck with his decision and was going to be there to watch over Amanda as he is now responsible for her well being.

But for those saying Police Chief had every right...I am sure you would be pleased as punch if someone who thought they would make a better parent than you just scooped up your kid. Yes they made Amandas mom to be a scumbag to create this moral dilemma.

But if you need every movie to be wrapped and tied neatly with a Bow...stick to RomComs or Hereo movies.

An exchange from a classic "Simpsons" episode came to mind:

Homer: Marge, I'm confused. Is this a happy ending or a sad ending?
Marge: It's an ending, that's enough.

The viewer is meant to agonize over the ending and mission accomplished. It's not like a movie is obligated to tie everything up in pretty bows.

My people skills are fine. It's my tolerance of morons that needs work.

Agreed. I watched this film for the first time a few years back with my girlfriend at the time, we had a long debate afterwards about the moral decision Casey Affleck's character made... we both had opposing views but the fact the ending was thought provoking and gave an extra dimension to the film. Mystic River (based on a novel by the same author) is the same to a certain extent.

I'm writing this signature in bold so people know it's a signature
