How can Michelle Trachtenberg seriously play this role? I read the book and wasn't the biggest fan but the main character should be someone mature and polished not some actress who is barely out of her teen years. I feel that this movie could have been pulled off I love will estes but I think Michelle Trachtenberg will ruin this movie. Hollywood should focus on having roles of women go to women not young girls

I read the book about two years ago, and psychologically and visually Michelle can suit well Carrie. Don't misunderstand actors with their play roles, and above all don't let your idiosincracy overcome you capacity of judgement.

I think that I am just hung up on her eurotrip performance. I don't have a problem with her but I think that stupid teen comedy is the reason why I don't see her playing this role. By the the way using big words to insult me is very classy. And I'm sure you feel like a bigger person Fabio for doing so.
Only time will tell how well she plays the part, I hope its a good movie because it has serious potential. Besides things could have been worse they could have cast Lindsay Lohan

michelle threw out one hell of a preformance in this film, i was surprised to see, but she really grew into this role, and hit the character right on..

I like to see Michelle on a movie, she's really pretty, but this role is probably better suited for someone else.
Also, check her performance on "Ice Princess". It's a stupid teen-oriented movie, but she is perfect for that role. I can't think of anyone who could have done a better job.
And you're right, Lindsay Lohan would be by far worse than Michelle, although her acting when she was younger was just perfect. Anyone who sees "The Parent Trap" have to admit she does an amazing job...
I agree I love Will Estes on American Dreams. It was my favorite show and I hope it comes back.

Well, yeah, Michelle is only 19 (twenty soon). And I heard someone say that the character is supposed to be 23. Hey...four years isn't that big of a deal though. Especially in Hollywood. You should be glad they didn't put a 12 year old in the part...or maybe a 50 year old.
I think Michelle was a wonderful choice for the part, and cant wait to see it. Of course this is the little girl, I will always think of playing Nona, the little girl with the cast on her arm in the Nickelodeon show Pete and Pete, but little girls grow up, and I can't think of a better role to push her into more serious movies. I can't wait to see what kinds of roles she gets in the future..she is a talented young woman.

The first thing I thought when I saw the commercial was, "Buffy's little sister can't play Carrie! She's too young!"
Michelle Trachtenberg just doesn't seem the right fit for Carrie Belle. Carrie Belle IS young (23 years old), but she's mature and a little hardened.
From what I've seen of Michelle Trachtenberg, she could easily play Jamie (Carrie's best friend), who is a little more girly and ditzy, or Julie (Mike's younger sister), who is 18 (or 19??), a grumpy college kid.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie. I hope I can focus on the movie, and not on the poor choice of the leading lady.

shareSorry, Michelle Trachtenberg has to be horribly miscast. This isn't broadcast yet, and I'll give her chance, but it seems SO wrong. I don't think it's fair to judge Michelle on work she did years ago, but I just saw "Ice Princess" and she's a VERY lightweight, TV-type actress who doesn't seem ready for a serious dramatic role.
Carrie Bell is 23 when the book begins and over 24 when it ends...Michelle had to be 17 or 18 last year when she filmed "Clausen's Pier." That's a big age difference actually, since you change so dramatically physically and mentally between high school and graduation from college. (Carrie Bell had graduated from college a couple years before the story opens.)
Furthermore, my recollection is that Carrie Bell is described as having very dark, straight hair and a long slender neck. By the reactions of male characters to her, one assumes that she is extremely beautiful. Michelle is more the "cute friend" type, which doesn't seem right.
I'd like to add that male actor playing Kilroy seems badly off as well. If you read the book, Kilroy is a (boyish looking) 40! He's not a kid, he's middle-aged...a yuppie type, very quirky. I guess I was kinda picturing Ed Norton, personally. But definitely somebody who is obviously much older than the actress playing Carrie....
(Since we are playing Amateur Casting Director, I think someone like Claire Danes -- with her hair dyed darker -- would have been an amazing Carrie Bell.)
This movie was filmed in April this year not last year :) Michelle is 19 turning 20 soon. I dont mind that shes playing Carrie. I just find it a bit weird that Will Estes is playing her fiance Mike and they played brother and sister in a failed sitcom many years ago lol.

I'm guessing none of you have seen Michelle in Mysterious Skin if you think she's not a mature actress. Films don't get much more dark, daring, or mature than that film and she gave a noteworthy performance.
I think she'll be wonderful in The Dive.

What bothers me about Michelle is not so much her age or any of her previous work, but that she LOOKS young, and not really like a young woman, she kind of has an immaturish look to her, young and stuff, so to see her playing an older woman with a career and having affairs and stuff is just kinda odd..in my opinion anyway.
