Maybe I missed something, but how in the hell are prisoners allowed to work with weapons! It's pretty hilarious. Not only are they using all these tools etc with what looked like minimal supervision, but the cars all had machine guns stuff on them. Just an observation
sharewhat boggles my mind is that in all the time Death Race ran NO ONE thought to just drive away? I mean you're loaded for bear, you're not actually getting out of prison anyway...NO ONE has ever thought to make a break for it?

I see a lot of people didn't much attention while watching.
They clearly stated to Jensen when he was first inspecting the cars that to try and escape would be pointless because they can cut off the car engine whenever they want and the guards have bigger guns then they do.

I don't remember them saying they could cut off the engine but I do remember that the weapons had kill switches, also that there were helicopters.

I think it was more because if they tried to escape... where would they go? How would they get rid of the cops when they had no working weapons. So I guess no one before him thought of using his gas tank of a weapon, AND had a navigator who was willing to take his place and divert the attention away from him so that he could get away. And also, none of the other drivers were willing to work together to come up with this plan.

The prisoners knew that the penitentiary was on an island and the only thing connecting the island to the mainland was a comparatively slender access road on a bridge. When Jensen Ames and Machine Gun Joe discovered where the access road was, they did plot an escape.
