Why does henry...

...approach the gang's car with a crow bar and not, at least, ASSUME they probably have hand guns that make his crowbar about as effective as the swordman's sword in Raiders of the Lost Ark?

I realize the writer's were trying to establish Henry's rash, bold character, but it just seems very naive (stupid) for Henry to challenge some dangerous gang members -- who kidnapped his friend -- and think that all he needs is his guts and a crowbar. Surely these bad boys would be packing heat!

Agreed. There are a several similar incidents spread throughout the movie.

When they kill the leader and escape, why do they stop the car? To leave off a dying/dead cop.
When they have escaped, why are they surprised that there are people following them?
Why does the cop talk so much and not just kill the leader right away? When he hesitates, why does he turn his back on the leader's two lovers? The same that jumped him 1 min earlier (and now stabbed him in the back).
Why do they so often leave their guns? Why do the tough guy act so brainless when the power gets shut off and he goes down to the reception to complain...

I honestly wasn't expecting him to get shot either. I didn't think it was smart but I don't think it's impossible to believe
