This is not a horror

This is not a horror, but a thriller, just like
Pulp Fiction is not a horror movie but a thriller.

..."Pulp Fiction" is neither a horror nor a thriller, it's a crime comedy.

I don't know what movie you watched, but the one I saw was pretty effin' horrific!

Movies about ghosts, or zombies, or undead killers back for revenge may be a fun romp and all... but it's us humans who are truly terrifying... especially crazy, relentless, F'd up Mexicans hell bent on tearing you limb from limb... and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it... now that's *beep* scary!

And p.s. What the hell planet are you from anyway??? Pulp Fiction is NOT a thriller and it CERTAINLY has no comparison to Borderland... apples and oranges my friend... I mean, where did that even come from?

You don't understand the meaning of horror. It's not just movies about zombies, horror means that a movie is shocking to the audience. And there is some very shocking scenes in this one.

reply

I agree its not really a horror but a thriller. Horror for me must involve some aspect of the supernatural, or the unknown, aliens, mummies, zombies, evil nature (creepy animals a la 'The Birds'), walking skeletons, ghosts, demons, death (as in the grim reaper), the possessed, something from which there is no real protection.

I wouldn't classify this as a horror personally, but is definitely a thriller.

The film is filled with all kinds of references to the Mexican gang's creepy Satanism & occultism, so there's definitely more than a hint of the supernatural. Besides, not all horror flicks are monster flicks. The main definition of a horror film is that it's horrific, scary and/or disturbing. "Borderland" is all three PLUS it has the aforementioned creepy occultic touches. So, yes, "Borderland" is definitely a horror film, whereas "Taken" is a good example of a thriller.

Ehhh, so you wouldn't consider movies like Halloween, Friday the 13th, Scream horror movies?? All those movies have human beings killing people for the hell of it. Of COURSE they're horror movies...

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Your examples would come under 'evil nature' though. I think that's why this film isn't a horror movie - its very violent though. The cult was made up of crazy deluded people and regular bad dudes. They weren't properly evil like you'd get in a horror movie.

reply

Oh I think they were evil alright.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre has no supernatural elements but is very much considered a horror movie.

That's highly debatable. For example, one could easily argue that Gramps from TCM is an undead entity.

reply

Watching it now. It's definitely horror movie, just like Silence of the Lambs is a horror movie.

reply

Just finished watching it and I agree. The machete-hacking death scene of Henry alone would be aptly described as horrific.

reply

No, this is most certainly a horror film. One could go as far as even categorizing it as an "occult horror" film.

reply

The definition of horror is pretty wide, it has many sub-genders:
