the 5 million

unlike most of the thinking on here, i think that only stoltz got the money. with that being said...i dont know why or how. he seemed to have a look on his face like he got away with something that the others didnt. if they all got the money i think they would have showed each person finding out they got it. lets face it, it's not like they had to cut back on the run time, it was long enough that anothe 4 or 5 mins of showing them all get the money wouldnt have made a difference right?

EXACTLY bigdawgp, that's my problem. Why ONLY show him getting the money, when just a quick insert would have eliminated confusion? And that look on his face, and the way he sank the medallion, it definitely suggested he had gotten away with something. But what? The ending did nothing but muddy the waters and leave me scratching my head, ruining the whole miniseries fo rme.

I don't know, but it has something to do with horses.

Just a suggestion, but is it possible that Sam Neill's character remembered that Howard was he one who'd gone to him in the previous reality and passed on the secret to the triangle that finally resulted in the successful recovery of his brother.

If i remember correctly, in the penultimate reality, Eric Stoltz was the only one who remembered what had happened/was going to happen and subsequently led them all to the underwater installation just in time to prevent the disaster. The others were effectively folowing his lead and direction. It is possible that this was recognised and rewarded. The others would have been none the wiser having been fobbed off by the oblivious brother and accepted their lot. Is it significant that Eric Stoltz left the others just before the end and set off in a taxi? It may indicate the separation of the group. He was eager to leave.

Of course, they may all have received the money but the fact that they showed us the other characters and what they'd recieved; the woman - a mother, Bruce - a family (and an injury mind you)- we could also say stability and responsibility, and the psychic - his life; maybe this money as well as a second chance was a suitable reward as seen fit by the shipping tycoon. The cross may have been a simple token, which he'd bought or still had from the columbus episode. Who knows?

I thought the series was fun but even with such a series, especially when they try to look at phenomena that are actually documented, i wish they'd look more at loose ends.

SPOILER.........FORM THE TOP OF MY HEAD

1. why did the people in the plane disappear but not the girl? How did she age and survive? Why did the other planes crash so close?

2. Why was the car they were driving turn out to be the only one in the water? Was it some freak of timing?

3.What is the likelihood of that girl actually leading them to the scientist and then saving the world? Was this pre-ordained? fate?

Maybe, i'm looking for too much. I still enjoyed it and actually watched it in one sitting.Still....after 4 and half hours it left me with more questions buzzing about my head than plausible answers (even though they tried to fit in as many subtle theories as they possibly could)

Overall satisfied. It's not often i'll say that about any 'show' over 4 hours. I'd still recommend it as a way to while away a few hours.

Re the 5 million each, if you read the Wikepedia info about "Triangle" movie, it says that each of the participants got their 5 million dollars in the end as promised. Hence, when you see Eric Stolz look at his cheque, you are supposed to conclude that the rest of the team received the same.

reply

it might be weird. but i´ve been given the idea that they didn´t get the check. we only see that the reporter gets a note. i thought that it was an asignment. wich would mean that after all the triangle exists. and they get the letters like in the beginning of the movie.... so, in my opinion it´s more or less an open ending thought. for me that would be more interesting than just that they were given the cash. i´m not sure about this. anyway. i´m hoping that somebody will clear this up.

MEGA SPOILER ALERT!!!

If they get the money, it requires that Benerall remembers what happened too. I'll explain: When Bruce Geller calls the Cayman Islands bank to ask about the money, he once replies "...so as soon as Mr. Benerall gives the word, the money is mine, fantastic!".
In the final shot of Benerall, he stands there as if recognizing the quartet.
In my opinion, if Howard Thomas gets the money, they all do.

"In my opinion, if Howard Thomas gets the money, they all do."

I agree. I think showing only Howard with the money has more to do with Eric getting top billing (more screen time) then anything story-related.

I think they all got the money;not showing it for all of them was just the director's choice

reply

I dont think they all got the money.
since all the memories between first car crash over the bridge and the second one are gone, it shall make Sam think that it was Howard who actually solved the mistery..
And I have no idea about that sinking cross, except the fact that Sam couldnt have had it in the first place.. (if the triangle has never happened, he wouldnt be able to find the melted corpse of Colombus' crew, neither the cross on him)

Paradox.

Benerall remembers.

And I draw the conclusion that all got their checks, because if Benerall remembers, he also remembers that he put the team together and stressed that it was a team effort, thus, pays them all.

reply

They all got the money, they only showed him get it because he needed it, his was the crap job trying to debunk conspiracies for a low paying paper and it cost him his marriage. They mention his financial troubles at least once in every episode...

I think they all got the money.
Also from the Wiki, it says that Benirall remember those four and sent the money.

What I don't understand is :
1. why Benirall sent that 15th century cross in the envelop for the reporter.
What does it mean ?

2. Why the reporter doesn't look confuse/surprise what he saw that cross ?
