Yet Another New CM Addition - Supposed Replacement for TG

Thoughts?

reply

His last role was as Norman Bates gay psychiatrist. He is a good actor, but Thomas Gibson he is not.

reply

Oh! That's who he played on Bates Motel. I saw that listed as a credit in one of the articles and was thinking of earlier seasons. How could I forget the shrink? He was fantastic on BM. I guess it's just been off too long. Too long a break for that show lol.

reply

Is he just replacing the actor or is he replacing the actual character? He seems a little young to be the new Chief (mid-30's? I suppose he could be playing an older character).

At least they're adding experienced agents w/ interesting backgrounds. Seaver was a dreadful character.

reply

Paget's character is taking Hotch's job. Some people say that technically it's Paget who's replacing Thomas. The team usually has 7 members, so with Thomas out and Paget in, that number was still at 7.

But now they added this guy which puts the number at 8. The articles say that Damon is replacing Thomas and people assume he'll be unit chief, but that's not true. He may in a way be replacing Thomas, but his character won't be replacing Hotch. He's simply just a new member because apparently they were "a man down".

I looked up the actor and he's 43, so IF he was going to be unit chief, he wouldn't be too young.

reply

Thanks.

I like Emily - I think she's a good choice for Unit Chief.

reply

Me too! that's what I was hoping for!

reply

Could they be putting the Section Chief back in - replacing Esai Morales? I believe Morales was 51 when Cruz was introduced, Strauss was 48.

reply

I've seen a few people suggest this. I don't think that's what they're doing (I could be wrong). I know Cruz hasn't been on a lot, but really Strauss wasn't on a whole lot either. Strauss wasn't introduced until the season 2 finale, and then after that she usually only appeared once or twice a season, sometimes three times a season. But the role of section chief has always been a recurring role, I don't see why after 11 seasons they feel the need to make the section chief a bigger role than they have in the past.

Since Damon was cast as a series regular, that means he'll most likely appear in every episode once he appears. Or he'll be in most of them. I just don't think they need the section chief that much. As I said, they've gone 11 seasons only showing the section chief 1-3 times or some seasons not showing them at all (I don't think Strauss appeared at all in season 4, and Cruz didn't appear at all in season 11). Had they made a bigger role for the section chief earlier on in the show, that would be one thing, but that's not what the show has done.

I guess we'll find out eventually though.

reply

On NCIS, Rocky Carroll is considered a regular and there's plenty of episodes without him. While the agency director is a higher position, within the context of the respective shows the role is similar.

reply

True, some series regulars have 17/18 episode contracts, which means they appear in most of a season but not all the episodes.

I just feel like usually with CM, when they hire a series regular, it's to add them to the team that we see everyday. And like I said, we don't see the section chief on CM very often. I also feel like the role of director on NCIS has played a bigger part on that show than the role of section chief on CM.

They could change it up and it is a possibility that they want to make the section chief role more prominent. But since the section chief role has never been a regular role, we'd be seeing this character more than we saw Cruz or Strauss. Plus it would be a little weird for the section chief to be heavily involved in the cases when we've gone so many years with them really only coming in when it was something big. Technically Cruz did say he wanted to be more involved, and yet we've only seen him 6 times since he joined in 2013, and 5 of those times were in his first season.

But like I said, we'll just have to wait and see.

reply

It's like what they did with "CSI" when Billy Petersen left. Fishburne replaced Petersen, the character of Catherine replaced his character of Grissom. Damon Gupton is replacing Thomas Gibson, Emily Prentiss is replacing Hotch. (there was a story that said they were bringing in 2 to replace Thomas Gibson) It's become a common move of CBS' - replace the actor with someone they consider a big name and replace the character with a character the fans already know. They believe it minimizes the loss of fans and gives hope to fans of other the characters.

reply

I don't consider Gupton to be a big name, at least in acting circles. He is known more as a conductor than he is as a big name actor.

reply

Yeah, I haven't heard of Damon and had to look him up. I thought maybe it was just me, but from other people's comments it looks like a lot of people were saying "Who?"

reply

I've never seen nor heard of the guy...why did they have to replace the man/TG AND the position of Unit Chief? Am I stupid, or did my brain just stop working? Or, do they not think Paget/Emily is capable of being Unit Chief? Why did they think hiring a man to replace TG would placate us angry fans because they fired TG? They are doing so many odd things IMHO it defies common sense.

reply

I think they are desperately doing everything they can to attempt to keep interest in the show high.

They are failing miserably.

Glad I am no longer watching new episodes. This is going to be a total Charlie Foxtrot, I feel sorry for Reid, Rossi and Prentiss.

NO HOTCH, NO WATCH.
Someone made a 'mess'

reply

I agree. Do you get the sense they thought they would be able to fire TG quietly, get all their other little players in place, and everything would die down in a couple of weeks? And it backfired? I, too, get a feeling of desperation.

reply

I forgot to tell you...watching Hurricane Matthew closely; they're still showing it coming up the Eastern Coast of Florida (Melbourne) where I live, and it's made it's turn to the North, but is moving slowly at 5 MPH. The winds are now 145 (Cat 4) MPH, but they're saying by the time it gets to us, they'll be down to 105-110 MPH, which I guess is good? My kids live about 5 minutes from the ocean and I live about 15 minutes, so we're all praying. I know they'll dismiss the schools and people from work (My son works at FedEx and my daughter-in-law is the Director of a pre-school nursery and VPK), and Melbourne does have evacuation routes and many safe shelters, and most of the houses here are cinderblock and have withstood MANY hurricanes...roofs, I can't say that about. Where I live has lots of big trees which has me a little concerned. Tomorrow or Tuesday, I'll start bringing potted plants and loose things in from my patio, along with a small bistro table and chairs. Things I can't move will just have to fly.

So say a prayer to whatever diety that we stay safe. I'd appreciate it.

reply

I hope you and everyone in Matthew's path stay safe and there isn't too much damage.

reply

Thanks. I have two bottles of champagne and margarita mixings that will help. The year after I moved to Florida, we had 4 hurricanes, 3 of which were pretty dangerous within 6 weeks. I was almost ready to go back to Memphis and deal with their tornadoes. At least with hurricanes we have a little bit of notice, tornadoes you don't.

I do appreciate thoughts and prayers.

reply

He is the unkown name actor.

reply

Dude is right, he's Norman Bates' gay psychiatrist on Bates Motel. Not bad as an actor, but why do they need another member of the BAU? Why? It's already top heavy (pun intended) as it is.

I love trolls, they taste like chicken.

reply

I'm actually surprised. i like this actor thought didn't know him before he played Norman Bates' shrink. That said, I thought for sure that they would hire someone more well known, but I guess they already had that with Adam.
