Probably there won't be a new season soon. The light novels that the anime is based on are nearing the end of the main story. Perhaps they would wait until the story's completion before making a new series because the arc in the first novel that is not animated is pretty short (like 2 or 3 episodes) and the arc starting in the novel after it is quite long (4 novels at the moment). Information about the plot after The Second Raid can be found in wikipedia. If you don't mind spoilers *sigh* you might check this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Metal_Panic and the links in it.

The chance that a new anime series might come out are actually fairly high right now. For the latest novel releases the TV advertisement has been using the voice of Tomokazu Seki (Sousuke) which is really unusual to do unless there is a tie in anime, and FMP was recently also shown on TV again. Also, apparantly at a con in Australia Vic Mignogna (Kurz) mentioned that he had been approached to do one or two more seasons of FMP, but nothing had been confirmed. So at the moment one big rumour is that they are waiting for the novels to finish up so they can do another series. Since Vic Mignogna has been asked about it, I'm hoping that it means that if a new series is going to be made it will possibly licenced right away so an American release can come out fast (fingers crossed!)

If you want to know what happens next in the story the manga Full Metal Panic Sigma continues well past TSR, although it is not available in America ( fan translations up to about volume 6 are online but I believe in Japan they are up to about volume 12) and there are novel translations available online. The one which comes after TSR is called 'Dancing Very Merry Christmas', if you Google it you should find it somewhere.

Same as the poster above, that's really good info. All I've heard is the author of the novels and the director for Fumoffu! and TSR wish to collaborate on more episodes together. But Shoji [author] has been hard at work on the final two novels of the series. The first was released July 2010 and the second was originally scheduled for September but pushed back to Fall 2010/Winter 2011.

As the novels take a dark turn near the end, they're probably waiting for them to end before starting an anime so they can end it with an uplifting ending as the ending for book eight was extremely dark.

Also, if you wish to get your fix of the novel in the U.S., Tokyopop has translated and published the first three novels in the U.S., the fourth and fifth [the books TSR! is based on] will be compiled into one book and released in February 2011 with more to follow.

The final novel actually came out in Japan a few weeks ago, you can read translations of both parts here http://xmistervx.livejournal.com/

I agree they took a dark turn- especially Approaching Nick of Time, but I am glad there was a happy ending in the end and that Gatoh is considering releasing a few more light hearted short stories set after the final book

And I'm really glad Tokyopop are continuing to release the books even after such a long gap, I've read the fan translations but it is nice to be able to read actual proper books. I hope they sell well!
