I know that FMP-Fumoffu was done in a different style to the original FMP, but is it a actually 'true sequal' to FMP, or a re-emagining using the sme character but set in a different continuity?

It technically takes place during the first season. It's basically the school stuff that was in the manga but not in the first season.
