How does the book end?

I really like this movie, although I find the ending a little bit disturbing (ie, even though the real Kishen is a dope, does he really deserve to disappear for ever?) and I had heard that the end of the book is different. What happens?

i think in the orginal story the ghost gets trapped in the bottle, and i think thats the end right there

The whole story is about how smart the sheperd is and Lachchi, kisen and the ghost are not the main players. So the shepherd shows how smart he is by solving the riddle. In this version the only possible fairy tale ending is the one showed by Palekar.
