The term Bollywood was coined by western media, many people in the Mumbai film fraternity avoid the use of the term.

yeah, most indian people don't even use that stupid word anyway.
I have stress induced dyslexia and you know that, Dr...Oslek
Umm - an old fairy tale is a Hollywood ripoff? Maybe it is the Hollywood movie that is a rip off?
shareExactly, don't you just hate it when some...er..person just talks out their a** claiming Hindi cinema copies everything hollywood makes? It's funny how those very same people absolutely LOVE hollywood copies of other cinema. I think it's just a trend they follow thinking it makes them sound funny and witty to just say...oh, this is a copy... without corellating their statements.
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous
If it's good and it's Indian it must be a copy!! Some one thought the same about Don except they thought it was a copy of a recent movie! The original Don came out in 1978.
shareWhy is it that on almost every Indian movie board, there is a post called 'Hollywood rip-off!'?? It's really annoying, especially because most of the time, the claim is untrue.
Apparently, KANK is a rip-off of Closer, because both include infidelity.
And the OP didn't even say which movie Paheli is supposedly a copy of. It's an old Indian fairytale!! It's a book!! How could it be a Hollywood rip-off?
When Hollywood copies something, it's a 'tribute to the original', but when Indian cinema even remotely takes a theme from something, it's a 'total rip-off' or a 'copy'.
I know this is out of context though.....still just for information, KANK is actually inspired from "Falling in Love" starring Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep....!!!!!
shareI agree. And you know most of the horror films made these days are remakes of the Japanese films.
sharethis and classical INDIAN book!the story is from a book. no hollywood movie!
shareYou know, some people don't know what they are talking about...
shareI just saw Paheli, after so many years on VCD,im a great Shahrukh Khan fan,and I take offence when someone says its copied,,but cannot state the source.
By competing with Hollywood,we have only set a standard, agreed sometimes we step down from it and copy, but most of the times.....WE DONT.
Hatred is a very underestimated emotion. -Jim Morrison
... that person who started this probably just wanted people to start talking... how could Paheli copy a Hollywood movie?? It's an original story.
shareI haven't seen "Paheli," so I won't call it a rip-off, but even though it is based on an Indian traditional story it also shares several plot elements with the 1947 Hollywood film "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" (starring Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney). I don't know if that's what the original poster was referring to, but that's what I thought of immediately when I read the plot summary of "Paheli."
-An Indian Movie Fan
Maybe the Ghost and Mrs. Muir read the fairy tale Duvidha... One can be sure that Duvidha was not copying that film as that tale is embedded in the folklore of Rajasthan for centuries.
shareI just saw Paheli. It was a fantastic story. And this is an original story.
To you who think it mimics "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" Get a grip!! Just because they are both about ghosts doesn't make them the same!!
I was kind of glad of the ending since, I was afreid for wife and child being cast out.
Also felt the husband deserved what he got. He married a woman, refused to consummate the marriage, then leaves her immediately with his family for 4 years. What a jerk!! He shouldn't have married anyone. Selfish jerk, him and his dad.
MANY, I mean, MANY and almost ALL bollywood films are shameless, degenerated rip-offs. But this film was an exception as it is based on a novel and I actually liked it. It was truly one of the best and most subtle Bollywood films I've seen recently. Very well made. Certainly better than the over-hyped, over-acted crap like Black. Swades was a well made film but it was flawed in the narrative and plotting and it went on toooooo long. So, if they were to send a film to the oscars(Worthless awards), this film should have been it.
shareYou do know "Bollywood" is a name given by the Hollywood media to mock the Indian film industry, right? And the Indian media took the name to backfire at Hollywood. Now, not only is Bollywood the biggest film industry in the world, but it's considered its own genre. Take that Hollywood.
Get your facts straight first, dumbass! Btw, the movie is not copied from any movie!
When I first read the synopsis I thought this was a rip off of Starman, except with a ghost instead of an alien. It's not though, it's just that the story of some strange being taking over a human's body is widely used. It probably has been told since the beginning of history.
shareYep... I've read many times that there really are no new stories, just new interpretations. I think you'd have to copy every single scene in a film before anyone could really claim you'd ripped off someone else's work. I write, and if I wasn't allowed to be influenced in any way by other writers' work, I wouldn't have much to offer.
shareI have head Paheli is a remake of kannada movie Nagamandala, i have seen the movie Nagamandala, was an excellent movie.
