2.0 stereo sound?

I stumbled over the dvd of this movie and saw that it was only a 2.0 stereo soundmix... now is this a downmix? or did they blow all the money on everything else and neglected the sound? And I did see the movie, and it sounded quite good, but one wonders if it was intended as a standard stereo-release.
