Some similarities? I noticed this... but yeah the stories are different because of the usual indian love story that comes in but other than that I found it kind of similar if you really think about it.
Salman-McMurphy and Nurse Ratched kind of like Kareena Kapoor? and the whole mental gang that Salman tries to loosen up and bring some color into their idle lives in the ward. I'm reading this book in my English class and I just realized how similar it is. This could be true...considering the fact that today most bollywood movies are just remakes which sucks :'(

the word you are looking for is adaptation. It's an adaptation of the novel with a cultural twist.

It's not an adaptation as they don't acknowledge the book or the film (which was what they probably saw), hence it's a rip off.
