"can i get about 5 more of these blonde bitches?"paris hilton

reply

I don't believe that Bob's tools spoke to him, but I could be wrong. Also, I think its great. Considering that Spanish is the second most spoken language in the US.

Yeah, Disney thinks it's great too since it's allll about the advertising dollars.

I guarantee you if swedish were the second most spoken language in the US of A the handymans name would have been Sven and he would have had blonde hair and blue eyes and a swedish accent.

"Ruprect! Do you want me to get the genital cuff?"

reply

If Swedish was the second most spoken language, there would be a need for shows that teach an understanding of it. It's called supply and demand, and it makes sense.

this show smashes bob the bulider to pieces

reply

Bob The Builder is a childhood classic. Handy Mandy is godawful.

reply

Try listening to "Prairie Home Companion" radio show on NPR at NPR.org. They parody Swedish immigrants to Minnesota in many of their sketches, especially Garrison Keillor's monologue on Lake Woebegon near the end of the show. And they are based in Minneapolis, Mn. so they're just making observations about the people who really live there.

reply

Bobs tools might not.. but his machines do.

The hardest thing in this world... is to live in it.

reply

Bob the Builder is on PBS, not Disney channel. Bob is a carpenter, whereas Manny is a handyman/repairman. It's not the exact same thing, plus kids learn the names of more tools this way.

reply

Look at it this way, If Yoga was invented in Cleveland, it would be called Stretching.

If you are white like Bob on PBS, you are a carpenter. If you are mexican on Disney, you are a handy man(ny).

I hope all of you that read this see the sarcasm. Too many people make a big deal about nothing. Let it go.

reply

Bob's job was outsourced to Manny, because Manny would do the same job as Bob for about 10% of Bob's salary. Bob is now sitting embittered in his living room cursing at Hispanics.

"Just do it. Sue sue sue. Do it. Go go go go." - Tom Cruise to his lawyer about bad press.

He doesn't BUILD stuff, he fixes stuff. He doesn't do general construction, he does repairs on household stuff.

Well Bob the builder no longer has new episodes. Plus children love the idea of fixing and building things.

reply

I'm thinking disney saw the money viacom (via nickelodeon) was raking in with both Bob AND Dora the Explorer. Slap them together and... BOOM! MONEY FROM CHEAP SWEATSHOP TOYS!!!
Nice to see "Fez" working, too. I wonder if Lindsay Lohan might show up for a guest voice...

reply

Holy Gertolli you're a freak! This is WAY better than Bob the Builder. Bob the builder is an obese fix em up man whos co workers are all machinary. Can he fix it? I...THINK.....NOOOOOOOOTTTTT!!! And their are better ways to teach kids than treating them like they're stupid (I teach 2, 3 and 4 year olds, babysit for neighbors AND I have 3 of my own)

:::In a baby voice::: Do YOOOU SEE SWIPPER????????

This might not live up to what i'm saying but it's nice to have someone new instead of the stale Barney, Blues Clues, Dora the Explorer and Bill The Builder

reply

I totally agree with you on this. I too teach 3 and 4 year olds and believe it or not the kids aren't Bob fans anymore or Barney. The kids that I have (mostly boys) love to build things and knock them down. So hopefully they saw Handy Manny today so we can share it on Monday.

reply

Well, in this case, the tools are small hand tools, rather than construction machinery. But yes, there are some definite similarities.

On the other hand, I think Bob the Builder is no longer in production, so Handy Manny will give us some new stories to watch.

reply

Since when has childrens' programming teemed with originality?

Handy Manny is an obvious knock-off of Bob the Builder, and I don't think even the creators would be able to argue otherwise. It's Bob the Builder, minus the talking heavy equipment, plus talking tools, with a little bit of Dora mixed in (Spanish added in regularly).

I have two little boys, three and four years old, and they are of the opinion that there can never be enough "build-it" cartoons, so hey... more power to the folks at Handy Manny. And I think it's hilarious that Wilmer Valderama (of all people) is the lead voice actor in it.

Build on, Manny, build on.
