Charlize Theron: Being asked to play Gal Gadot's mom in 'Wonder Woman' is a slap in the face

Charlize Theron has a played mom, sure – rather memorably in "Tully."

Of course, she's also a mom of two adopted children. But the role of Wonder Woman's mom?

At 43, she's nine years older than "Wonder Woman" star Gal Gadot, 34. Someone obviously got the math wrong when she revealed on "Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen" this week that she was offered the role of Wonder Woman's mother.

"This is a great example of how Hollywood like slaps you in the face when you start aging," she said.

Theron laughed and said she thought she was talking with someone in Hollywood to play Wonder Woman in the DC film.

"And I was like, 'I'm not familiar with it. What does Wonder Woman really do?' And this person said, 'No, it's for Wonder Woman's mom.' "

"It was the defining moment when I crossed over," she said. "And I wasn't fully aware of it."

The role of Diana Prince's mother, Hippolyta, would later go to Connie Nielsen. At 53, that makes more sense.

Exactly. You need just enough of an age difference for the audience to be able to tell "these are the experienced warriors and these are the rookies". Theron would have been a good choice.

yes, buu huu... poor me, hollywood is so mean. i have only made 70 million as a women....if i was a man i would have made 100 mil :-(

Meanwhile hollywood: Fuck the president , his family and 60 million americans !

this bitch just need to adopt some more africans to feel better about herself, or even better, move to south africa and become a farmer, those white farmers are treated great down there :-)

Of course there is something that was not brought up here. The idea that, in the film, the amazon women do not age like non-amazons do. This is important because it shows that any person playing Wonder Woman's mom does not have to appear to be old enough to play her.

The article states "The role of Diana Prince's mother, Hippolyta, would later go to Connie Nielsen. At 53, that makes more sense." Actually it does not make sense because that would mean that Wonder Woman's mom is WAY older than she should be.

Funny thing is in about 3-4 years time Charlize will be only to happy to be taking the role of Supergirl's mom, whereas shed have been better off taking WWs mom as ppl say here she dosnt age so not so much a slight on her ego. and she get to be in loads of sequels

Watch the Soldier movie and you will see Connie Nieldsen is the better choice than Charlize.
