How good are this film's chances?
Unlike BvS and SS, this movie does have the benefit of being a solo film, so it won't have to introduce a bunch of different characters at once. It also has a respectable director, and two fairly acclaimed comic book writers, and so far it seems to have avoided any truly negative publicity, outside of that angry letter from that disgruntled (and kind of hypocritical) former WB employee. It also looks like it could potentially be more grounded than the first 3 films in the DCEU, which all involved your typical "OMG IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD" 3rd act conflict, which should at least make for an admirable change of pace.
Those are the potential pros the movie has going for it. On the other hand, the movie does have some potential things going against it, such as the fact that Zack Snyder is still being partially credited for the story, as well as the fact that Heinberg and Johns have never actually written screenplays for feature films before. They've both worked on television shows, but that's not quite the same thing. There's also still a bit of a question mark regarding whether or not Gal Gadot will be able to carry her own as the lead. She did get a good deal of praise in BvS, but she was a minor character in said film, so her role didn't really demand as much.
Then of course, we also have the elephant in the room regarding whether or not that aforementioned former employee can be considered a reliable source. I'm personally leaning towards no, but I can't completely rule out the possibility either.
