Missed this. Any mention of the Nazis links?

Wanted to watch this but forgot. Can someone tell me if they covered Edwards well documented links with Hitler. Many historian today belive this was the real reason Edward was made to stand down, and that his relationship with Wallis was a convenient excuss to get rid of him. I was hoping that with this being the first telling of Wallis and Edwards' story since his Nazis links became well known to the puplic, that it would be included.

There was only one mention of Germany that I remember. Baldwin's being briefed by his ministers on rumours circulating about Simpson, one of which was that she was a Nazi agent and had had von Ribbentrop's lovechild, which was being brought up in Margate by nuns. I guess the effect of this was to make the idea of links with the Nazis look ridiculous.

Very little was made of it. Nor were any of his more, er, prejudiced views on race mentioned. I believe it was to be a nicer, more pleasant view of the whole event. It's supposed to be quite romantic, but it struck me as just sad. In the end, one can only believe how fortunate it was that it went the way it did.

I read in a British paper of a letter written by a servant about King Edward VIII. He said the King was lazy and not doing his duties. Also, with him not wanting to be King and Wallis' beliefs Abdication was possible besides King George V said of Edward once he became King:"He would ruin himself within a year".

The nazi questions aside, this version left out most of the negatives (on record) of both Edward and Wallis. I realize the length of this version prohibited piling every event into the plot, but I wonder if the length was deliberate in order to leave out most of the negatives, such as Wallis back-stabbing Thelma Furness, the king's dereliction of duty time and time again (often whilst on yacht somewhere with Wallis, and even whilst entertaining guests with Wallis at Balmoral), and the full story of Wallis' divorce from Ernest.

This glossy version definitely has an agenda: to make W and E look better then they were.
