Chiang Mai, Thailand, location

I heard that most of The Elephant King was shot in Chiang Mai, Thailand, very interested in seeing how it comes across in the film.

Yes it was! As far as I know all the Thailand scenes were shot in Chiang Mai. They used many famous locations and notorious spots for the filming. I know this because I was not only in Chiang Mai at the time but I also managed to get extra work during the filming of it. I was in the kick boxing scenes (in the crowd) that they filmed in the Bar beer Center plus a few others the filmed in the same venue and also a night club scene filmed at Chiang Mai's famous Space Bubble Disco. I am waiting to see the film myself as I got to chat and laugh with Jonno Roberts between takes and also talked a lot to Florence Vanida too. It's about two years in the waitig for me....I can't wait to see it. Chiang Mai is a stunning city, I am lucky that I have many friends there now. It feels like my second home.

Looks fascinating. I wanna visit Thailand so bad.

It seems to me that someone doesn't got the message.

"It seems to me that someone doesn't got the message."

I haven't seen The Elephant King yet, but wish to do so. However, this comment bothers me, as I live in Chiang Mai, Thailand, as a foreigner, and I can honestly say it's one of the most friendly, pretty, hospitable, and safe places one can go. All the previous posters were saying was that the city was nice and the scenery made some of them want to visit. As I said, I haven't seen the film yet, though I have some idea as to what it's about, but if the supposed "message" you speak of is DON'T GO TO THAILAND, then this movie's bad, frankly. However, I have the feeling this movie is, in fact, not bad. You're just zeroing in on the things that give you, personally, ample reason not to venture much past your front lawn.

It is realistic. As soon as the money stops flowing freely Thais turn nasty and violent very quickly towards foreigners. The "Thai smiles" is just a marketing slogan. The smiles disappeared years ago.
