Good movie but with massive problems!

Anyone else see this movie and think it was good but easily could have been great. There are just so many easy to fix problems here and there.

-The Tatum O'Neil character not is almost completely unesscarry but even if you think she is needed character, nobody is mention the huge age difference and only notice race?

-Issiah is a terrible comic....AND? What was the point of this plot device other than his mother saying he was funny when he was young (he sort of was). Is the audience supposed to make the huge leap that even though comedy comes from pain, Issiah hasn't figured out how to make his work for him yet (and never does). This has to be the only movie that uses a comedy club as a location yet has no real funny people there. Also, it seems to abandon the entire comedy scenario altogether after a while.

-There is sadly little to no believability between the grown up brothers. I'm not criticizing the performances. All I'm saying is that we see in flashbacks the strong bond the brothers had with Issiah busting his brother out of prison...so why isn't there some kind of addressing about why the brothers no longer get alone anymore. Maybe that's a dumb question as we see some of the detriotation between the relationship and it's obvious and Issiah is being blatant at times about the inconvience of taking care of his brother.

-Even though the movie seemed to get better by the second half (mostly focusing on flashbacks since the "present" was mostly absurd) yet, there is waaay too much that isn't seen. The worst part is Issiah telling us he broke out of both out of his school as well as James institution (insanely disturbing but probably an accurate portrayal of places like that years ago) but NOT SHOWING US. I understand it's a small budget movie but are they kidding? So much time seems to be wasted in the first half of the movie....It's not like it had to be an elaborate escape but I expected something! Terrible.

Anyone disagree or have anything to add?
