The kids too cool to go to prom

I thought this was a funny movie, but I really got a strong "well we don't want to go to your stupid party anyway" vibe from some of them.

If you're going to go the route of being aloof and above the whole Hollywood thing, then you really shouldn't take every paying role that comes your way. Cause otherwise you just end up sounding kinda bitter, dissing other people whose only crime seems to be landing the roles that you don't seem to get.

Part of success comes from being a sell out. It seems to me like a couple of them try to be sellouts, don't get the success that comes with being a successful sellout, and then they talk trash about other sellouts.

If getting a date for a prom is an analogy for getting your own sitcom, yes.

reply

"Cause otherwise you just end up sounding kinda bitter"

No, you end up broke.

Great analogy
I got that same vibe

and about that party
they are sooo not invited
and they will never be invited from the looks of this little tour film
so they need to like, get over it

So are you arguing that Patton Oswalt is the same as someone who refuses to go to prom because he turns down roles he thinks are sell-outy? He was on King of Queens. I also hate people who are so attatched to their high school experiences that they incorporate them into every metaphor they use.

You've got to follow your balloon!

wow you didn't understand what they were saying at all. you should learn how to read.

"I'm just saying hypothetically if he and I were both single I would jump his bones."-A Christian.

They explain in the movie that they only take those roles so they can keep doing stand up. It isn't that they're "tool cool"; they just think that stand-up is the only pure platform in comedy and it is all they want to do because it is the funniest, truest form for them. Patton (who is the one that really talks about it) isn't condescending, he just knows what he wants and goes on stuff like King of Queens to finance things like the Comedians of Comedy, which happens because of his own wallet. And Zach openly ridicules all of the roles he has been in.

Just quoting this so you can't erase it later.

Nostradamus he isn't.

Everyone Patton mentioned that people should be watching are doing well too, aside from a couple of them.

reply

Yeah but prom is lame anyway. Why spend the money?

reply

Because at the end of the night if you play your cards right you get laid

reply

No you don't.

I didn't.

I went to my senior prom stag, while everyone else was getting a sitcom.

Wait...how'd a metaphor get into this?

reply

I didn't get laid on my prom night either. I went with a lesbian. It was crazy because I really like to keep things clean and she was super messy. We got into the wackiest shenanigans.

reply

You could just get laid the normal way.

reply

Of course. Everyone knows and they will openly admit they are all nerds who use comedy as a shield. That's how most comedians get started. Dane Cook was a popular guy which is why he is about as funny as planes hitting the world trade center.

reply

Those planes were funny.

All your base are belong to us. There is no mainstream.

reply

Hell yeah... those planes had much better comedic timing than Dane Cook. So does everyone on this movie... Dane Cook makes Friends look funny and that's hard to do.

I think you just insulted yourself way worse than you insulted the thread.

Your parents weren't married when you were born? You bastard!

I've heard this sentiment from a whole lot of more famous comedians. The idea that "standup is the only pure comedy."

You hear the same thing from musicians from time to time about touring.
