A few game questions

As I have had problems logging onto the game forums, I will ask here.......

Having played the City of Heros/Villains Free trial. I was quite impressed with this particular game, having already sampled number of the more fantacy styled MORPGS like Everquest and it's sequels( Actual Game and Free Trial.), StarWars Galaxies (Free Trial), World of Warcaft (Free Trial), Dark Age of Camelot, ( Free Trial), Shadowbane (Which is free to play.) I found this game somewhat refreshing with no need to worry about equipment inventory the same way you need to in other games and among other reasons. Like being able to jump right into a mission that being no real need to go around killing small critters like in those other games. I just found this game quite refreshing.

I am thinking of buying this game....

However with playing thisi game I was curious to find out a few things that were never really made clear to me from character creation to playing the actual game.

I was wondering if the height/size, body type, and clothing/armour chosen upon character creation has any effect beyond cosmetic appaerance in the game. Surely body size should ahve a effct in the game. What about armour, or is thsat jsut there for show.

I think I noticed that smaller/shorter character appaer to move faster and can avoid being hit more easily.

Larger characters will move slower. Sometimes it's barely
noticeable.

Sometimes a power can be chosen to improve speed or hitting capability.

With the armour you chracter may or may not be starting the game with. It's hard to tell wehter that insectiod chitin is giving me better protection than leathery hide or human skin. Does this armour slow me down or retrict my movement. Like the Medievel Plate Mail, or once again like Insect chintin which is supossedly made to be less restricting towards movement, while doing the same job as well.

It's really hard to tell though. I might just as well assume that if you made up a eight foot tall insect man with bug eyes, antennae. Would this be the exact same as making a very large man wearing nothing but underpants.

I wish to know?

The different heights, clothing, and costumes are purely cosmetic. So a giant armor-covered mech man and some little guy in tights will have the same protection. The reason the smaller characters look like their faster is because their shorter legs have to move more to go the same distance. Sure it's not very realistic, but it's just a game.

The only things that affect your abilities are the archetype chosen (e.g. blaster, tanker, controller, etc.), the powers you choose, and the enhancements you put on those powers.

I got some questions of my own.

If I purchase an account, will I still be able to use my character from my free account? Bearing in mind it has been a few months since my free one expired.

Also, if I want to create an archery-based character, I presume it would have to be a Blaster (being long-range and all) but will it have to be Natural?

You can use whatever Origin you want, so you could be Magic-based, Technology Based, Natural, etc. There's no limit in CoH between the Archetype and Origin and it's entirely up to the player to rationalise it. So if you so wanted, you could have a blue-skinned lizard in armour who uses a machine gun and has a Magic Origin, or a wizard-looking guy with swords who has a Technology Origin.

As for the Archetype, Blasters and (if memory serves) Controllers have Archery as a skill-set. For Blasters it's the Primary power, for Controllers it's a Secondary.

Indeed, my archery-based character has Kinetics as a Primary and Archery as a Secondary power set.

You can pick any Origin (Science, Mutane, Magic, Natural, Tech) it has very little to the play other than some different story arc contacts, and which stores sell your enhancements.

Archery can be taken by several Arch Types.

Heroes
------
"Blasters" has Archery as a Primary (This is the highest damage version of the power).
"Defenders" can pick Archery as a Secondary power (It is a little weaker than Blasters and you get th epowers a little later).
"Defenders" can pick Trick Arrow as a Primary power. (This is shooting net arrow, flash arrows, glue arrows think Green Arrow or Hawkeye).

Villians
--------
"Mastermind" can pick Trick Arrow as a secondary power. (Again this will give the powers a little las it is a secondary.)
"Mastermind" can pick NINJAS as thier primary pets doing so will give you limited Archery mixed with summoning NINJAS to aid you in battle.

You can find longbow temp power, on both sides, doing different story arcs or on safeguard/mayhem missions. It gives you limited basic snap shot power.
