Can someone please tell me how mimoko and Lili are connected?

To rephrase: Why do mimoko and lili both use telephones to kill, with the same ring tone? Is there any relation, or is it just coincidence that the two have the same warning signs? I understood the rest of the movie, but this part has left me baffled. :/

This probably won't be ANY help... But I read the manga adaption, and Li Li would send people letters, but the letters had been written in their own writing, suggesting they sent it to themselves. This is like Mimiko's part in the curse - it made it seem as the person called themselves. I'm just going to guess that Li Li caught up with technology.

Sorry if this doesn't help.

edit:I watched the movie a few minutes ago. I don't remember hearing anything about the letters in the movie, so I am sure my assumption above was right.

Me too, I didn't see a relation, but it's been some time since I watched One Missed Call 1, perhaps it's clearer when you watch both movies, one after the other.
I just thought, well she has a transmitter mast right aboe her grave, so she uses it. That was enough for me :)

Yeah, fair point about the tramismitter, i've just watched the 1st and 2nd of these moves over past 2 days and if i remeber they said that coal was found in mimkos lungs, so that can suggest that li li killed her, and Mimiko was still out for revenge since she pocessed takao, near the end, but i do remeber reading that li li used the writting way to tell people when they were going to die. Well thats my theory, but you never know the two may not be connected and the whole idea of the ring tone is in fact to throw you off the scent ok li li, as near the start of the film you have the police officer checking for the red jawbreakers.

I'v have the creepy ringtone and, it is so scary when it goes off in the middle of the night.

Li Li using letters was explained by the old woman in a deleted scene on the DVD.

I was thinking that possibly Mimiko was possessed by Lili when she hurt her little sister.

That would explain why she had an asthma attack right after her mother saw her hurt her sister. Coal dust in her lungs could have triggered an asthma attack.

Not exactly sure how they are connected but her father had been from the same town where Lili had lived. He could have been one of the kids who teased her when she was a child or descended from one of them.

I agree with you. And I also agree with another poster that said that the main characters' "good sides" are killed leaving their "negative sides" as puppets.

In the first movie, one of the ladies taking care of Nanako (Mimiko's sister) commented that Mimiko was a kind girl leading the viewer to believe that their mother was abusive.

In the second movie, during the autopsies, they found coal dust in Mimiko's body (Lili's method of killing people). Possibly, Lili reached out and killed the part of Mimiko that was good and possessed her to abuse her little sister.

Mimiko was probably not loved in her family because she's the child conceived from a rape by a lunatic.
Yumi suffered abuse from her mother and was traumatized after being forced to look at her grandmother hanging from a rafter (suicide).
Takako was being abused by her father (she tells Kyoko and Naoto that her twin sister was not touched by their father), started to hate her twin and wished she was gone, and regretted that it came true.

So, it seems like Lili chooses her puppets depending on what they've gone through. They're all essentially killer ghosts with Mimiko having her own trademark (the candy and the theme song) But who knows why Lili uses the same song.

As I understood it, Li Li can control the spirits of those she kills, in effect Mimoko became her avatar in Japan while she continued to kill in Taiwan.
In the same way Takako after she died was used to kill Yuting but could not recall doing it.

Hope this helps
