Lamest 'addictions'

Most of these people are pretty hardcore dope shooters and/or alcoholics, but I seem to remember some early episodes where some rather tame 'addictions' were featured. One in particular that stands out was this kid who was supposedly addicted to video games and needed an intervention. There were also some episodes that featured gambling addictions which don't really seem that serious compared to the people they feature now. Can anyone recall any other addictions like this? Have they ever shown people addicted to just marijuana or food or shopping or other weird stuff?

reply

There was an episode on a woman who was addicted to shopping. Her addiction made her go in debt for a couple of hundreds of thousands of dollars

On a side note, I don't understand why this show doesn't profile those who are addicted to cigarettes/nicotine.

reply

Maybe because you can still function, work, be a parent if you smoke cigarettes. Nicotine doesn't tear people apart like hard drugs do. Granted, you can still die, but you can't really overdose on nicotine (not that I've seen/heard of anyway).

reply

And it's legal.

reply

So is alcohol.

reply

You really think addiction to cigarettes is the same as addiction to alcohol because they are both legal? I'm really hoping that your post was just an attempt at sarcasm that didn't come across all too well. If not...good lord.

If this show started doing shows on cigarette addicts it would become ridiculous. What's next, the finger nail biters? Toothpicks? Sunflower seeds? Give me a break.

This show is about addictions that ruin the lives of the addicts and those around them. My aunt smokes. Thus far her family hasn't shattered and she doesn't need an intervention.

They did have an over-eater who was morbidly obese, as well as bulimic and anorexic people. I would LOVE to see an episode with a serious marijuana addict, so that people could hopefully learn that it is an addictive drug that can be harmful both to your health and lifestyle, and not "just weed."

Also, being a video game addict is not so tame. Okay, you aren't putting poison in your body, but if you are staying up night after night staring at a screen alone in your room ... it's messing you up. No life, for one!

I saw an episode sometime in the past year (unsure if a rerun or when it originally ran) of a woman who was addicted to eating through a feeding tube. It had been surgically placed on her abdomen for some reason I can't remember, and she definitely no longer needed it, but she always had to make a federal case out of everywhere she was going with her family and if she would be able to "feed herself" at the occasion, and then she would make a big production out of raising her shirt and injecting her feeding tube with chocolate milkshakes or stuff (NOT the type of enteric feeding tube stuff you normally see in a hospital). One of our dear departed cats had a feeding tube for a short time and I just couldn't get that out of my head when watching that episode!

reply

That woman could not (PTSD) swallow; she had a traumatic episode early on in her life and she had to feed herself that way.

reply

Gambling is actually harder to treat than drugs, it's becoming more common too, hardly a "lame" addiction, if that even exists

reply

Yes I agree. Where are the gambling addicts?

reply

Earlier episodes did feature gambling addicts, but the more recent ones seems to focus on alcohol, meth, and opiate addictions exclusively.

reply

I'd love to see some sex addicts. That would be worth watching. You think it's gonna be hot then you got this fat nasty dirty ho getting down for cash or whatever

reply

Yep I read about a gamer in Asia that games three days straight and died (can't remember how though) Also the lack of sleep probably takes a huge toll on them as well

reply

They had an episode with a woman who was addicted to her treadmill.

reply

You sure that wasnt My Strange Addiction? Was she addicted to her treadmill or working out in general? There was a guy on Intervention a few years back that was addicted to working out - he would work out like 7-8 times a day
