What a horrible movie!

I wondered why only 186 people voted for it and I found out. This movie/screen play was horrible. The acting bad and I think the movie had about 100 Fu** words in the dialog. The plot was dreary and very predictable I gave it a four because some of the scenes and I mean VERY FEW actually looked like is was filmed with something better than some piece of crap home movie camera. I can't believe they actually produce this and put it on film. I think I would rather watch a re-run of the entire "Police Academy movies over this garbage.. In fact I've changed my mind this movie does not deserve a four; It will fall under my ominous ones; Avoid at all cost and if you bought the DVD then you at least have a coaster to place your drink upon. Hopefully with all of the fine actors that have come from Australia, these stay in country. Sorry Australia.

1. The number of votes a movie on IMDB receives is no indication of how good the film might be. It's an obvious fact that should go without saying. Clearly some people are slow, and need to be told.

2. Yes, the F-word is used a lot in the film. Well it may come as a suprise, and brace yourself here... but many people in the real world actually do use this word frequently.

3. The acting bad you say? That's your perception, and yours because you grew up living in a box, and probably still live in a box.

4. I see you gave Mel Gibson's Passion of The Christ 10 stars. Do you have poor taste generally or just in film?

5. Your "home movie camera" remark I'm sure carries the weight of your extensive cinematography experience. The film looked good. Sun-baked dusty bright Australian surburbia was captured perfectly. Colours were brought forward, slightly altered I thought to deviate from the real.

6. Your DVD coaster joke is highly original. I'm sure I've never seen such a witty connection between DVDs and drink coasters. I especially like the bit where you say "to place your drink upon." Your creative command over the english language is staggering.

The reailty is that these dark, chaotic, naughty-sexy-girl characters do exist. The film is dark and has fun with the tragic circumstances and reflection of these common themes that run through society - at the outer-suburban edge, or otherwise. It's fast paced, it's cool, it's dark and gritty.

Grit is what so many films - so many American films like The Chumscrubber try to achieve but completely fail because of water-tight film making processes and lack of vision. Thank God films like Suburban Mayhem are being made, which show how it's done.

There's a reason why 2 of the most respected film critics in Australia gave this movie such a high rating. And that reason has something to do with them knowing stuff about filmmaking, and you not knowing.

Sorry Australia? You should apologise to IMDB for writing such a crappy post!

yeah good reply mate i really liked the movie too and i dont think people should diss australia (or any country for that matter) and its actors. the only thing i found funny was how you refered to david stratton and margaret pomeraz as "2 of the most respected film critics in Australia" what are you kidding?

reply

stratton and pomeraz have a big following, and while I dont agree with everything they say, usually they provide a pretty good analysis of the movie even if you dont agree with how many stars they might give it. and often they provide different perspectives and you might agree with one and not the other. So, between them I think they get it right most times.

try looking up 3 movies you like that they have reviewed and see if they are on the money. just 3 random movies that you havent seen their review already for.

anyway, who is more respected critic? the ones that write for news limited or fairfax publications? dont think so!

I agree. Horrible movie. And as far as the character of Katrina being 'dark and sexy', all I could see was the same girl in 10 to 15 years time. *shudder*

I don't call myself Australian after seeing this movie.

Oh go away MarkC you stupid *beep*

The Acting of Aunty Dianne only would be justification to not watch this movie!
