Have you all been under a rock?

This rant is aimed at anyone who said that this film was the worst ever. Honestly, this movie is WAYYYY better than any other Australian film out there. Has everyone been living under a rock or is everyone just ignorant to all the crap Oz films.
Almost every Australian movie ever made has been a B-grade flop. (And I've seen my share of flops in my time). Sure, it is still pretty poor, but if we compare it to ANY Oz film, it is good. The point is, i liked it. If people want to whinge about how much they didn't like it, know this: i wasn't listening!(or reading). BTW, i thought Kat could've actually done some killing herself.

I think you're a bit hard on other Oz movies ... but I agree that this is a good film, and anyone who thinks the writing ad acting is unrealistic has not worked as I have in low-income blue-collar Australian suburbs ... it is spot-on.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

Way better than ANy australian film? I think your knowledge of this subject must be limited. First off you have the brilliant Mad Max as well as the even better Road Warrior, The Quiet Earth is one of the best science fiction films ever. Walkabout is a great film, Gallipoli is a classic, The Man From Snowy River, Romper Stomper, Muriel's Wedding, Priscilla: Queen Of The Desert, The Piano, Moulin Rouge, Rabbit Proof Fence, The Proposition, Jindabyne, Happy Feet, etc. All of these films are better than Suburban Mayhem which could easily have been a Cinemax original film.

You know us kiwis have a bit of an "issue" with Australians claiming our talented artists as their own. So with that in mind, let me point out that "The Quiet Earth" (which I agree is a great science fiction film) is a New Zealand film. Now techniquely "The Piano" is listed as an Australian film because it was produced/financed with Australian dollars, but it was filmed in New Zealand by a New Zealand director (Jane Campion) with New Zealand actors with a uniquely New Zealand story so I think we can claim it as ours!
But I agree that Australian filmmakers have made some great movies like the ones you have listed (although I wouldn't call Gallipoli a "classic", and Muriel's wedding just didn't work for me). However, let me add "Picnic at Hanging Rock" to your list, and "Bad Boy Bubby" while not a great film is sure an experience!

That's how it usually works. I've often seen The Piano listed as an AUS/NZ co-production, but 'nationality' of films is pretty much always assigned according to whoever produces and finances it. Of course, Holly Hunter and Harvey Keitel certainly weren't NZ actors either.

Curiously enough, Jan Chapman, Australian-born producer of The Piano (and many of Campion's films) was also the producer of Suburban Mayhem. Clearly the latter is not the towering highpoint of her career, one would have to say.

Hear hear! I've been boning-up on the subject and Oz movies seem to perpetually suffer from erectile dysfunction. The industry needs some Viagra©. This film isn't it - it's more like a multivitamin - but it's on the same shelf.

You would have to have seen 'almost every Australian ever made' to judge them as flops.
You haven't and they aren't.
Most of my favorite movies are Australian.

Best australian film? cop on to yourself, cause Bad Boy Bubby and Mothers Day are both way better than this filth. Also Romper Stomper is better to.
