The 'Owners'

I saw a PART of the movie, and considering it's Disney, it wasn't terrible. It was decent, however, Kyle Massey and being a money lover seems to be the same character in That's So Raven, doesn't it?

Anyways, there were people who claimed to own the dog, but they weren't (surprise, surprise!) When they decided to take the dog back, howcome the "owners" never went after them? Wouldn't that at least make sense that they look for the dog as the "owners?"
