What is the 'thieve's trick'?

When Vany is being chased and hurts his arm the chaser says something about it being the "thieves trick".

Can someone explain this to me?

I think its just a trick where you scare off the person chasing you by pretending that you are serious and mean it when you say that you ll attack them with a broken glass bottle (or similar). I guess you could break the bottle on your hand in a way so that you dont get hurt by to the other person thinks you are dead serious. AT least thats what i thought it meant.

It's simple: would you try and physically apprehend someone who was bleeding profusely?
Most people would not, hence the thief escapes (at least in a 1-on-1 situation).
Russia has a big HIV/AIDS problem, too, so this particular tactic is probably especially effective there.

"Kill 'em all. Let God sort them out."

reply

It's a statement. 'I am desperate, I will kill myself or you, doesn't matter which. Approach at your peril.'
