He was bit a very long time ago and unlike many vampire mythologies, these vampires still age, just at a much, much slower rate...that's why Truska chides him over his looks.

In the books it's explained that Half-vampires age at 1/5th the normal rate, and full-vampires at 1/10, and it's also hinted at in the books that Crepsley was alive around the 17th Century, so it's about right.
