I liked this movie
and I guess I'm the only one
shareI'm part of the minority as well (and it's been -before the movie-and still is one of my favorite book series)
shareI like it too I love Josh as Steve
sharei just saw this and I really loved it myself too actually! john c Reilly's combination of aged gravitas and funny sarcasm made for an excellent performance and I loved how the story had just about the right balance of silliness and yet seriousness to make for a production with character and its own identity. I loved it, personally, and wish they'd make a sequel.
sharemy thoughts exactly! the funny sarcasm was quite good and entertaining.
shareI personally love the movie and think it did bad because of the timing. Two huge hits came out along with Vampires Assistant, so ofc it was going to be a low box office. I think it was Toy Story 3 that came out with it. I mean, really? What did they think would happen lol I've seen Vampires Assistant more than once.
shareI liked it. I was entertained. Some things like the vampaneez seemed left field silly, but otherwise, not bad. Too bad a sequel's not likely.
shareNah, I did too, though it seems like we are in the minority. Really liked the characters and would love to see a sequel, sad that's not gonna happen :/
shareGotta say I was EXTREMELY disappointed (after watching the movie tonite)...
WITH THE FACT THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE NO SEQUEL IN THE WORKS!!!
😢
I REALLY liked this, for a lot of the reasons that others have listed: The sarcastic, dark humor, etc.
And I NORMALLY -REALLY- dislike John C. Reilly, but I LOVED him in this! 😖
(sigh)
I guess the only way I get to know how the story goes on is to start reading the 100 or so books someone mentioned in another thread... Which I DON'T really have any particular problem with, but I DID enjoy this movie (gave it an 8 outta 10) but... But given the amount of money it just absolutely and UTTERLY -LOST- pretty much guaranteed that it wouldn't have a sequel...
It prolly has a lot to do with the purists who HAVE ALREADY READ the books. (shrug) Ah, well... And so it goes... 😡
Will letcha guys know if the books are any good! 😊 (Am sure they prolly are!)
In fact, the reason I prolly liked this movie as much as I did is that it reminded me of the purposely campy horror movies when I was a kid in the 70's & especially the 80's... Movies like "Fright Night" & so on, where the humor was AS integral to the plot as was the horror. (shrug) Of course, I HATED the remake of "Fright Night" even tho it starred David Tennant (one of my favorite actors)... They had taken all the campy humor out and made it actually scary... 😠Same thing with the remake of ANoES! 😞 All the campy gone, just scary and disturbing plot left... In the original, the campy humor was CRUCIAL to helping to cover up the fact that a LOT of us LIKED Freddy: A child murderer. 😉

Death to Videodrome! Long live the New Flesh!
Everything you said, as well as the others I totally agree with..especially this. Really agree with you on the John C. Reilly bit.
And I NORMALLY -REALLY- dislike John C. Reilly, but I LOVED him in this!
Put me in the camp of really liking this movie. I was not thrilled by the opening intro of the two teens, but as soon as they went to see the Cirque I was captured. I love the characters of the Cirque, and I really liked the world-building.
The idea of the Cirque, of these semi-magical people wandering the world, as well as the vampires, magicians (or whatever the hell Mr.Tiny was) etc was interesting. I find, especially in vampire movies, there are the non-stop repeated tropes. To see some new ideas and types of characters was intriguing. To see new powers for the vamps was great: "magic spit" and the Fliting power.
I was also left really, really wanting to know more about the spider.
Be who you are. Everyone else is already taken.
I thought it was pretty good.
