BIG GOOF!

Did anyone notice that the Drummond house set was completely backwards?
The stairs went the wrong way.
The kitchen and front door were also on the wrong side.
Terrible mistake...

It has been stated on another thread that due to legal reasons, the set could not be exactly the same as on the actual show.

reply

Yeah, that's why you never heard the original theme music too.

reply

How can there be legal reasons, NBC owns the show.

reply

No, I think the show's creators actually own the show.

reply

NBC is the network that showed the series, but not the studio that produced it.

BTW, this has changed in recent years. Networks have began airing more and more shows they produce themselves.

reply

Didn't the show change networks close to the end of the series? I thought ABC picked it up?

reply

yes,ABC did pick it up for the final season.

reply

Exactly right. I worked on Behind the camera Different Strokes and yes we were not permitted to copy the set exactly. Not sure if it was the network or producers owned the rights to the look. But in the end we couldnt make the set the same.

Here's another Set Goof, this one from Happy Days:

Look at the season 1 living room...stairway to second floor/kitchen door still in same locations, but entrance to house goes from left front of set to right rear of set and fireplace goes from center-rear of set (Season 1, next to stairs) to stage left-front, where entry to living room USED to be; also, living room triples in size.

Guess old Howard Cunningham was the Donald Trump of hardware stores in 1950s Milwaukee...
