Killing the delivery-pilot old man?

Luring Nic Cage to the island, then killing him is one thing. That the Summers Isle residents can cover up. But adding another dead body for the police to investigate would really bring a $hittstorm down on them.

Little in this film made sense.

At first I thought they killed the pilot because he knew Cage was on the island having flown him in, and if the pilot's dead, he won't talk and expose them. But on second thought, I agree with you, it really doesn't make a lot of sense. Someone else had to know the pilot routinely made deliveries to the island and if he suddenly disappears, the cops are going to come straight to Summersisle. Not only that but with him out of the way, who's going to bring them supplies? I guess they're really "going for broke" in the hopes that killing Cage really will bring back their goddamn honey.

Yet we saw early on that the island has a website where they sell their honey, so if the harvest picks up they would need airplane contact with the outside world even more! Obviously they need to train some of these beekeepers on a prop plane.

It's just too stupid for words, really. Their grand scheme required Nic Cage getting to the island. How did they expect him to get there? And then they kill the guy who brought him there!

They are religious fanatics so you cant expect them to think and reason rationally

That was went through my mind as well. There'd be most likely an investigation into the disappearance of the pilot as he had been doing the deliveries to the island every day which to coincide with Edward's disappearance would bring the full force of police and law enforcement to the island. Although for outsiders to believe that the pilot crashed, the women would have to destroy the plane and hide all the evidence. Best to leave it all to the imagination.
